Could someone be kind and post the lyrics to Streets of Stavanger aka The Seasick Norwegian? It's sung to the tune of the Streets ofLaredo? Thanks!

This may be referring to "The Streets of Stavanger" (Norwegians Lament) by Stan Boreson.

I have had a quick search using the titles on the net and you tube with no joy as such except for album listings.

Might help if you had a few lines of the song.

I hear from your accent that you are Norwegian - is one line... I knew it as "The Seasick Norwegian". But Stan Boreson helps a bit.

THE STREETS OF STAVANGER
As I valked out on the streets of Stavanger.
As I valked out in Stavanger one morn.
I spied a Norvegian all dressed up in oilskins.
All dressed up in oilskins all tatter and torn.

I can tell by you r accent that you are Norvegian.
Dese vords he did say as I stumbled on by.
Come sit here beside me and hear my sad story.
You vouldn't believe it . ( I know, but I'll try.)

It vas vunce in a schooner I used to go sailing.
It vas vunce in a schooner I used to cut bait.
It vas first to da bait box and den to da railing.
And sometimes I got dere a little bit late.

I'm seasick you betcha, but I am Norvegian.
So I von't admit dat my face is so green.
I hang on da railing with dee-termination.
Da sickest Norvegian Dat You've ever seen.

So beat da drum slowly and play da pipes lowly.
And play the dead March as dat is my last vish.
Get up you Norvegian, dat is'nt a coffin.
Dat box dat you lie in vas meant for da fish

We had this discussion on another thread - and Don Firth wanted the lyrics (I think this was this song he wanted.) How to get the words? I called Stan Boreson - he's in the phone book. He and his wife looked it up in their files and named the CD that it's on. I'd be willing to bet that Don now has that disc and if he notices this thread, will corroborate the words or suggest any variants. :)

The post from Roy Frydenlund was written from the memory of my 92-year-old grandfather :-) I got him a laptop recently and I guess he found this thread and decided to pitch in! He amazes me...his memory and computer skills!

Before my wife and I moved to Norway she sang with a girl friend in Seattle. On one occasion they were singing at some function with a lot of Seattle business men. At this event they had backing of friends who were to act out the verses. They did the introduction saying they were doing this production with apologies to Stan. He stood up in the audience and said that's ok, and the show went on with many laughs from the audience.

so, I looked at Stan Boreson's website and he has a couple of Christmas albums. I wonder how "Ragnar the flat-nosed reindeer" goes?

and so is The Norwegian's Lament aka The Streets of Stavanger. If you search on Youtube for The Streets of Stavanger, you will find some other items including a video of street theatre and two of buskers playing on the streets of Stavanger.
