Chord Req: There's a New Star in Heaven Tonight

Heard this song recently on a radio program, the theme of which was "songs from silent movies"....yes, there were quite a few! Theme songs, title songs, and this little gem which was written when Rudolph Valentino died in 1926. Words were easy to find online, and I would love to have chords. I've had a bit of a go, but I'm not good at working out chords, so any help would be much appreciated. You can here an early recording here on youtube There's a new star in heaven tonight

There also appears to be a newer song with the same title, but it's the early one I am after.

Many thanks!
Cheers
JennieG

start with G, then Am.

'Go' is D

'Falls' is an A. (surprise!)

then I think it goes back to the G- Am tonality.

Give it a try, anyhow.

JennieG, if you can hold on until Friday I'll post the chords. It would be a help if you'd post the lyrics.

Thanks, leeneia - I will. Haven't had a chance yet, this morning's walk pulled a muscle in my side - not conducive to working out on guitar!

999, here are the words:

From the sheet music at Baylor University:

THERE’S A NEW STAR IN HEAVEN TONIGHT (RUDOLPH VALENTINO)
Words and music by J. Keirn Brennan, Jimmy McHugh & Irving Mills; ©1926.

1. Stars may come and stars may go
Up there in that starry space,
But when one falls,
God always calls
A star to take its place.

CHORUS: There's a new star in Heaven tonight
That will never fade from our sight.
There's a new star at home
In that far starry dome,
Shining down on his loved ones tonight.
There's a voice singing "Lead Kindly Light,"
With a smile that has made the world bright.
Valentino, goodbye!
But way up in the sky
There's a new star in heaven tonight.

2. Stars may rise, but in my eyes
There shines only one tonight:
A jewel rare,
God wanted there
Within His crown of light.

They don't write songs like that any more.

Cheers, and thank you,
JennieG

I hope that muscle heals soon, Jennie.

Thanks for bringing this song to my attention.

Leeneia, serves me right.....when I got home from a longer walk than I am used to doing I got stuck into some housework, cleaning the sink, sweeping lots of floors.....that will teach me to do houusework.

It's an interesting song, isn't it? From reading contemporary accounts it sounds as though Valentino's funeral was huge, and emotions were running very high.

Cheers
