Folk at the Sorrell Horse

16 Mar 12 - 04:50 AM (#3323487)
Subject: Folk at the Sorrell Horse
From: Alan Day

The Sorrell Horse is a lovely thatched pub in Shottisham nr Woodbridge.
The pub is owned by the village.
I have been asked if I can arrange some folk activities in the pub and we are kicking it off with a Folk night with Mike (Will Fly ) and I on the 16th April (third Monday) and keeping an old tradition alive by having a Folk session on the Fourth Monday. Other events are planned for the pub as follows ,5th May and 4th June which will include a Morris team and a session afterwards. There is a camp site within 100 yards of the pub and a future event could involve a marquee in their field.
Your help ,support and music will be greatly appreciated.
Al

I'm just sorting out my passport, Al - though as my ma was born in Lowestoft and all her lot came from Beccles and then Norfolk before that, I suspect I'll get in without too much bother...

Alan, can you supply contact details for the club? It certainly fills a gap in your area and I know a number of acts that tour regularly who would love to stick around Woodbridge after a Sunday gig in order to drop in.

Hallo Paul
I will PM you with my contact number.
I would like to point out that we do not pay fees, but take the hat round for the artist(s),but it does provide a sit down and listen audience which is different to the many sessions in this area.
Any assistance would be welcomed.
It is a lovely thatched country pub, owned by the village ,with real ale out of the cask. The room we use has excellent acoustics, with no PA necessary.Third Monday in the Month

Thanks Al; I hoped you'd say that! I was trying, before Christmas, to get some dates arranged in the South East this year, but those that replied were booked up (and in one case, thinking of giving up booking guests because of the financial situation). I have got an offer of a date at a club which has limited cash, but that alone would not cover the cost of getting there and back. Unless I can find some clubs that book on shorter notice, it look like being next year. I'll be in touch.
John.

Well, wasn't that a great session? (and all credit to Alan for organising it.) Magical playing from Mike and Chris - I would genuinely rate it with an evening I once spent watching Diz Disley and Ike Isaacs.

If anyone is wondering whether to make the journey to a Sorrel Horse evening, wonder no more. Oh, and well-kept Adnams and Woodford's beers on the premises, too.

Our thanks also to Al for organising another excellent evening at a great pub! Hope to see you all again.
