17 Mar 12 - 07:38 AM (#3324049) Subject: RE: Yamaha Stagepas 300 fan noise From: Big Al Whittle How loud? I've got this model pa. Its certainly noticeable - the fan noise. I always start by putting the master volume at zero. the individual pots at twelve o'clock. Make sure the output on your instruments are well up. there are batteries working in anything that needs a pre amp. Then cautiously advance the master volume. I always use a combo for my guitar these days - its just a better sound. for real white noise hiss- always cut the high frequency eq - thats where the bugger lives. |
17 Mar 12 - 03:28 PM (#3324247) Subject: RE: Yamaha Stagepas 300 fan noise From: GUEST Thanks Big Al but it's not reproduction noise but physical noise from the fan, or fans. I found out what to do but not sure hoe to open the amp unit. They are supposed to be alan keys, but they don't look like alan heads. Help |

17 Mar 12 - 03:51 PM (#3324255) Subject: RE: Yamaha Stagepas 300 fan noise From: GUEST Remember - some replacement fans don't make it obvious enough which is the right way round to attach them so they blow air in the right direction.. |
17 Mar 12 - 04:11 PM (#3324262) Subject: RE: Yamaha Stagepas 300 fan noise From: GUEST Thanks Lester, good old Maplins, I'll go and see them, and most likley end up with shed loads of stuff I don't want, but find I need once inside, and of corse I'll try a Torx thingee, never heard of them before but that is why I can't solve my prob. Cheers Stuart Pendrill, sans cookie |
17 Mar 12 - 07:46 PM (#3324361) Subject: RE: Yamaha Stagepas 300 fan noise From: Richard Bridge The screws could also be star drives, or tamper resistant allen's (with a little dum in the middle to stop the allen key going in). Scrutiny with magnifying glass is advised. Be careful - a computer fan may well be the wrong voltage and some Yamahas have temperature controlled voltages to fans so that they run faster as things get hotter. And to make matters more exciting some have cunning protection circuitry that won't put power onto the amp if the back is open. The EMX300 series pulls both of those tricks but the fan is nothing like a computer one, more like a miniature centrifugal fan heater... |
18 Mar 12 - 03:59 PM (#3324745) Subject: RE: Yamaha Stagepas 300 fan noise From: bruceCMR There are 2 fans inside this unit. There's a service manual available from http://elektrotanya.com/yamaha_stagepas_300.pdf/download.html That site (not in english) should have a "download manual" button at the bottom right - I see it when I view the site in internet explorer, but not firefox! But it does allow you to download the full engineers service manual, which contains disassembly instructions, and part number for the fans. If I'm deciphering the part numbers correctly, they are 50 and 40mm fans respectively, 10mm thick, 12V They don't appear to be temperature controlled, based on a brief glance at the circuits. |
18 Mar 12 - 04:32 PM (#3324760) Subject: RE: Yamaha Stagepas 300 fan noise From: Mick Pearce (MCP) That site complained about downloading being blocked so I had a look for another. This page: 300 Service Manual has two entries for it. The 1st hung when I tried it, but the 2nd downloaded without problems. The manual has Chinese translations but they seem to be just added to the English manual. There are sections on changing both the small and large fan. Mick |
