Whilst this is a book by a rock guitarist, Deke Leonard, who was guitarist in Welsh band "Man" in the 1970s and then from 1983-2004 after they reformed, it has relevance to the modern folk and blues movement as well. It covers the role of Alan Lomax in the 1930s, together with artists such as Leadbelly, Muddy Waters, Big Bill Broonzy, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee who influenced the later folk revival and musicians such as Woody Guthrie. More recent blues guitarists covered include Alexis Korner and his influence on skiffle and blues through the Ealing Blues Club and Ry Cooder. It also has a unique focus on Welsh guitarists such as Andy Fairweather Low and Dave Edmunds. A book for people who love guitars and the glorious noise they make, written by a musician who has lived and loved the music for 50 years, Leonard reflects on the genre from within in a highly entertaining and informative style that makes this an essential read.
