BS: Mycological Easter egg hunt

Hi Folks!
I spotted this page when looking up some information last week on Fungi that look like body parts.
It is an internet "Egg Hunt" of fungi which at some part of their life cycle resemble an egg.
I know there are some out there who might find it fun.

Happy Searching!
Quack!

Er Geoff, why were you searching for 'fungi that look like body parts'?? Is this some strange new interest of yours?? I liked the egg-shaped fungi, especially the (young) fly agaric in the middle. I've always liked fungi, lots of different sorts in the woods round our village in Autumn.

A city-living friend brought her children to our rural house some years ago, and they went on a walk (I was at work) which involved some woods. They didn't tell me about the "interesting" fungus the sweet little girls had found, but put it in the boot of their car to take home.

If they'd told me, I could have warned them about the smell of Phallus impudicus.

I think that's the one called Stinkhorn! It does exactly what it says on the tin. By the way, I hope those little girls knew not to even think about eating any of the fungi they'd gathered? As a young teacher I foolishly encouraged the pupils to bring fungi to school for the Nature Table, but was swiftly stopped by the older staff. Children get so peckish, and a nice red toadstool can be so tempting!

Is it better to teach them about dangers or to pretend they will ignore them if you do?

The Body Parts was a response to a cartoon somebody had put on Facebook.
It just took me to Tom Volk's pages, which I hadn't visited for a couple of years. I happened to spot the Easter Egg Hunt and thought it deserved an airing.

Thanks for the link, Geoff. It's interesting.

I have always wanted to see an example of that remarkable 'bird's nest' fungus, but never have.
