02 Apr 12 - 08:34 AM (#3332464) Subject: BS: UK Geography question From: John MacKenzie Q. What does the UK's largest county have in common with the Olympic Torch Relay? A. Fuck all. Yes folks, due to the fact that we are so sparsely populated, and therefore we won't buy many tickets, the Olympic torch Relay will not pass through any part of Sutherlane. Or Ross-shire, or Caithness. As Mr Cameron says, 'We're all in it together' What we're in is limbo, and we find this to be further proof of how irrelevant the Westminster political machine is, to Scots, and Scotland. Not that I want to see the goddamned torch, I shan't watch one second of the Olympics, but this piece of cynicism annoys me. |

Ruddy torch would go out if it had to go up as far as the ballast that keeps the south coast from sinking.... |

Only bad part really is how crowded the flight back from US will be. |

03 Apr 12 - 06:11 AM (#3332912) Subject: RE: BS: UK Geography question From: MGM·Lion I am all for the Olympics; but I think the "Torch" biznis rather silly & can work up no interest in it. Not even of any particular antiquity anyhow, and has little real traditional standing. I believe I am right that it was first featured in the 1936 Berlin Olympics; so probably an idea of old You-Know-Who or one of his advisors. Couldn't personally give a u-no-wot where they take the toy. ~M~ Except that if they don't bring it here to Haddenham I shall scream the house down! |
