Also I am curious if anyone has ever heard a song which starts "There was an old farmer who sat on a rock... then on the second line, the last word would switch just as one might expect a rather obscene word. Somewhat similar to an old college football cheer I remember which goes... Ra-ra race, kick'em in the face; ra-ra rass, kick'em in the WE NEED A TOUCHDOWN! |

Come to think of it, I guess that makes me really old...or something. Regarding your cheer, at good old Venice (CA) High School that cheer went "Rah, Rah, Ree Kick 'em in the Knee. My mother used to sing Chickery Chick cha la cha la in the mid to late 1940's and my sister and I sang it all the time when we were little. I just thought it was a regional thing, and that it was some Polish, Slavic or Croatian dialect since the town I lived in was made up of those nationalities and we thought our town was the only town in the universe (northern Minnesota, God's country. Ha ha ha! Oh my!) Anyway, since my mom passed away a few years ago, and just the other day I got to thinking about some of the songs she used to sing and I decided it was a WW2 song about the shortages of macaroni and bananas like the song "Please, mamma, give me macaroni, please, mamma, give me bananas too. Here, my dear, here is macaroni, now my dear, that's enough for you!" or something like that. I must look it up in the archives.... |
