How about lyrics to another kids tune that starts...chickery chick sha-la sha-la... Also I am curious if anyone has ever heard a song which starts "There was an old farmer who sat on a rock... then on the second line, the last word would switch just as one might expect a rather obscene word. Somewhat similar to an old college football cheer I remember which goes... Ra-ra race, kick'em in the face; ra-ra rass, kick'em in the WE NEED A TOUCHDOWN! |

Come to think of it, I guess that makes me really old...or something. Regarding your cheer, at good old Venice (CA) High School that cheer went "Rah, Rah, Ree Kick 'em in the Knee. Rah, Rah Rass kick 'em in the other knee." We just wanted to disable them, not make them ugly.---John |

13 Oct 99 - 09:56 PM (#123651) Subject: RE: chikery-chick From: Margo I only remember the chorus, Alice. No verses. Eekod, I just heard a similar song but it was nautical. You know how sea music is famous for inuendo, so it is especially funny that the song is completely clean. The last line says something to the effect that although this song doesn't rhyme, it's clean. Margarita |

I was about 8 or 10 at the time. There was a young farmer who lived by a crick, A decent young farmer who played with his— Marbles in springtime, with a lady next door. You could tell by her actions that she was a— Decent young lady who laid in the grass. Every time she rolled over, you could see her bare— Fashions and features. She could swim like a duck. She showed all the farmers a French way to— Bring up the children. She taught them to knit While the boys in the barnyard were shoveling out the— Contents of the stable out onto the grass. If you don't like my story, you can kiss my bare— Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies. If horse turds were muffins we could eat 'til we died. Is this the same song? Once there lived a chicken who would say, "Chick-chick, chick-chick" all day. Soon that chick got sick and tired of just chick-chick, So one morning he started to say: CHORUS (slowly with an emphatic lift): "Chickery chick cha-la cha-la, Checkala romey, in a bananika, Bollika wollika, can't you see? Chickery chick is me." 2. Every time you're sick and tired of just the same old thing, Sayin' just the same old words all day, Be just like the chicken who found something new to sing. Open up your mouths and start to say: Oh! CHORUS (My mom used to sing this to us, but all I could remember was the chorus. Definitely a silly song, and it has a simple tune that goes around and around in your head. I don't know what slowly with emphatic lift means, but that is what is printed on the music. We didn't sing it slowly.) alice flynn |

30 Jan 09 - 06:31 PM (#2553275) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chickery Chick From: Bill D Because it was sung by a female poultry who considered herself a 'chick'? 17 Jul 09 - 01:57 PM (#2682332) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chickery Chick From: GUEST,Kitten Fu The song is about a chicken who is tired of her name and makes one up that she likes (the chorus). It has nothing to do with chicory, the drink item. That's also why it ends with "Chickery chick is me." |

17 Jul 09 - 08:35 PM (#2682565) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chickery Chick From: kendall There is a risqué sea song on the same plane as that one about the farmer: There was a young sailor who looked through the glass, Spied a fair mermaid with scales on her— Island where seagulls fly over their nest She combed the long hair that hung over her— Shoulders and caused her to tickle and itch The sailor cried out "there's a beautiful— Mermaid sitting out there on the rocks," The crew came running and grabbing their— Glasses and piling 4 deep to the rail All eager to share in this fine piece of— News which the captain soon heard from the watch, He tied down the wheel and he grabbed for his— Crackers and cheese which he kept near the door In case he might one day encounter a— Mermaid he knew he must use all his wits He said, "Throw out a line and we'll lasso her— Flippers and then we will certainly find, If mermaids are better before or be— Brave my good fellows the captain then said With fortune we'll break through her mermaiden— Heading to starboard they tacked with dispatch Caught that fair mermaid right under her— Elbows and hustled her down below decks They each took a turn at her— Feminine setting her free at the end of the farce She splashed in the waves landing flat on her— After a while one man noticed a scab Soon they broke out with the— Scratching with fury and cursing with spleen, This song may be dull but it's certainly clean. |
10 Oct 09 - 11:12 AM (#2742804) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chickery Chick From: menderfire9 Fun site ya got here! My mother used to sing Chickery Chick cha la cha la in the mid to late 1940's and my sister and I sang it all the time when we were little. I just thought it was a regional thing, and that it was some Polish, Slavic or Croatian dialect since the town I lived in was made up of those nationalities and we thought our town was the only town in the universe (northern Minnesota, God's country. Ha ha ha! Oh my!) Anyway, since my mom passed away a few years ago, and just the other day I got to thinking about some of the songs she used to sing and I decided it was a WW2 song about the shortages of macaroni and bananas like the song "Please, mamma, give me macaroni, please, mamma, give me bananas too. Here, my dear, here is macaroni, now my dear, that's enough for you!" or something like that. I must look it up in the archives.... |
24 Feb 10 - 12:59 PM (#2848891) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chickery Chick From: GUEST,Osfan My mom used to sing "Hi Lily, Hi Lily, Hi Low" to me when I was a child. I have searched the internet to find the lyrics to no avail, but, I can tell you what I remember. They are: On every tree there sits a bird, singing a song of love. On every tree there sits a bird, and everyone I've ever heard. Could break your heart without a word, singing a song of love. A song of love is a sad song, hi lily, hi lily, hi low. A song of love is a song of woe, don't ask me how I know. A song of love is a sad song, for I have loved and it's so. Hi lily, hi lily, hi,low, hi low, hi lily, hi lily, hi low. Hi lily, hi lily, hi low, hi low, hi lily, hi lily, hi low. I sit by the window and watch the rain, hi lily, hi lily, hi low. Tomorrow I'll probably love again. Hi lily, hi lily, hi low. If you ever have a chance to rent this move, you should see it. It's delightful and sad and beautifully done. |
