05 Apr 12 - 11:00 PM (#3334320) Subject: Review: 'Pancho and Lefty' and more... From: GUEST,Pat Blackman Check out Murder Ballad Monday's series this week on Townes van Zandt's "Pancho and Lefty" (Check out our Facebook Page! ) Pancho and Lefty - This week Ken guides us carefully through that wide canyon between storyteller and listener as he explores the classic "Pancho and Lefty". We journey on the backs of strong recordings from Townes Van Zandt and Emmylou Harris, and the walls show colors and shadows that trick the mind as we ride. Even murder, it would seem, is in the eye of the beholder. "No one heard his dying words. That's the way it goes…" Outlaws, Bandits, and Troubadours - Ken keeps us moving through a land of outlaws, bandits, and troubadours in pursuit of the elusive "Pancho and Lefty." Wait, someone's plastering posters on the barroom wall. Wanted! Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Steve Earle, Hammerlock, The Poozies, Dick Gaughan, Gillian Welch, and David Rawlings. I'm Looking for my Fortune and it ain't in Illinois - Ken ties up noose, er, *loose* ends in his final post this week, but still manages to leave us hanging. We see another performance of "Pancho and Lefty" by its composer, and then meet Pancho's stepchildren as we take in excellent performances of related songs from Michael Smith and Blue Highway. "They say that farther west it's open wide..." |

From: Amos ME too--but you really oughta hear and read the internal Mudcat post-deconstructionaist literary critique on the subject. ALso, for those who enjoy musical endeabvours there is a summary ballad encapsulating the fundamental memes evoked by the antiquarian overttones of the original cultural matrix. |
