21 May 12 - 02:20 AM (#3353600) Subject: RE: Beginners voice workshop, Lewes 19 May From: Valmai Goodyear This workshop went extraordinarily well. Nineteen people attended; we'll do it again. It was an emotional experience for the tutor as well as the pupils as some people who'd been told for years that they couldn't sing not only found their voices, but started to sing out and sing well. Haley is a trained classical singer and performer, but doesn't have that operatic bel canto tone which is fatal to traditional song. The club put the workshop on, and was prepared to subsidise it if necessary, in order to encourage people to sing and give them not only confidence but also practical techniques to overcome nerves, improve pitch, control breathing and so on.
