29 Apr 12 - 10:41 AM (#3344770) Subject: RE: Rev. Gary Davis stories From: Cool Beans When I was in high school I had a friend who was taking guitar lessons from Rev. Davis. I was sick and missed school on a day my friend was scheduled for his guitar lesson. He called me from Davis' house and Davis played a little concert for me over the phone to cheer me up, including at least one (non-sacred) song he would never play in public: "Raise a Ruckus Tonight" (which he pronounced roookus). It was a kind and delightful thing for my friend and Rev. Davis to do. Ian, PM me, tell me more about your project and I can tell you how to get in touch with my friend. He is not a professional musician, so he's nobody anyone would have heard of in that regard. Marty |

However when I saw him play at Club 47 one night, his wife kept urging him, "Rev. Davis, Rev Davis, play " Candy Man." He finally relented. Stubborn old coot, but one of the greats. |
