29 Apr 12 - 03:30 PM (#3344896) Subject: BS: Which way is the future? From: Paul Burke The Aymara of the Andes apparently place the past in front and the future behind. So no "looking to the future" or "that's behind us now" for them. It makes sense: you can see the past, but not the future. When I'm on a train I always try to get a seat facing forwards, to the future for me. I feel uncomfortable seeing a past I haven't already experienced, as though it's old news. I want to be there first. And the Yupno of Papua New Guinea see the future as uphill- out of their valley. I wonder if the Welsh have a similar concept. |

Hang a right there, drive past where the Smiths used to pile their hay, and go straight about a another half mile or so and turn right again at the Baptist Church, or maybe it's the Methodist one, anyway you can't miss it from there unless you get to Sawmill Creek and then you've gone too far. |

29 Apr 12 - 08:34 PM (#3345009) Subject: RE: BS: Which way is the future? From: Charley Noble I don't see the future ahead or behind. It's more like multiple futures and maybe multiple pasts. There's also this sign flashing red that says "Last Exit." I wonder what that means. Oh, yah, it's the name of my niece's bar on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn; stop by some time and say, "Charley Noble sent me!" That should be good for a round. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
