Here's a classic description of a sailorman's spree in Sailortown based on a poem by John Masefield, as adapted for singing by Andy Kenna of Liverpool, England: click here for lyrics and MP3!

This song titled "A Night at Dago Tom's" will be featured on my forthcoming CD Songs from an Old Sea Chest.

Masefield's use of the term "Dago" is an accurate description of how English sailors would refer to other people of Spanish or Southern European descent and, perhaps, did not sound as offensive in the early 1900s as it does today.

Andy deserves credit for providing a more robust last line than Masefield was able to have printed back in the early 1900s.

Cheerily,
