Silly, loveable "Goober Pyle" died, today. He used to be on the Andy Griffith show and went on to others. Here's a OBIT. Here's a snippet from it:

An obituary released by the Nashville funeral home handling Lindsey's arrangements said the actor often joked about what he wanted written on his tombstone.

"One choice goes for the joke: 'I told you I was sick.' The other goes for the heart: 'I hope I made you laugh.' "

That boy could sing! RIP Gomer.

Goober, not Gomer. George Lindsey played Goober. Jim Nabors played Gomer and was the singer and probably better known. The two characters were supposed to be cousins. My dad was a fan of all the Mayberry-related shows.

Oops. My apologies. In any case, RIP.

The obit says he was in the running for the Gomer part, but missed out to Nabors. Since he went on to other acting and was added to HeeHaw, I think he must've had some singing ability, but I don't remember anyone but Andy Griffith and/or "Gomer" singing on that show. A few years ago when I was bedridden, my grandson and I really enjoyed the re-runs, esp. as he is a redhead just like Opie was.:-)

Some of the Mayberry shows have been - intermittently - still on at one of the three channels I can get - sometimes - since it all went digital. Unfortunately, there's no schedule so that I can plan to watch any of them, so it's a hit-or-miss proposition.

Both Goober and Gomer are remembered as friends we'd welcome on our tube anytime, although their assets as characters were somewhat different, in subtle ways.

Well, the Dillards........His character was a slightly older version of Cletus. Never escaped it either and he could havve but I think he enjoyed the ride.

Oh, of course, the Dillards! I only heard them in the reruns as we didn't get the AGS on a regular basis that I can remember. It was a delight to hear them.

I think he enjoyed the ride, too.:-)

Most of the cast are now gone. No sex, no violence and yet the most popular TV show ever.

The music is bloody awful, but Nabor's voice is smack on.

Guest999 is right. An outstanding rendition of that song, but the background music was a horror!

Turns out GOOBER did do some singing, even turned out an album. Nothing like Jim Nabors, but still worth a LISTEN, imo. There are a couple more on youtube.

Well, I'm amazed to learn that George Lindsey sang, too!
