11 May 12 - 02:34 PM (#3349648) Subject: RE: screw youtube From: olddude On top of that I either have to constantly police the thing to keep the creeps from posting dirt on the videos or I have to lock it up so tight that no one can see the videos ... done with it all. People ask me what happened to your videos or so an so's video ... because of this crap |
12 May 12 - 04:50 AM (#3349858) Subject: RE: screw youtube From: JohnInKansas A fairly large group of people have reported similar difficulties with both Facebook and YouTube. If anything the reports for YouTube have been more erratic than even the lunacy at Facebook, although it would be difficult to say which deserves greater concern. The explanation given is that both use "automated algorithms" to detect "objectionable or illegal" postings and to take "appropriate action." Especially on YouTube there appears to be a tendency to tweak the algorithms in response to each "error" with no consideration for what new errors the tweak will produce, with the result that overall response resembles that of a barnyard cat with a string of firecrackers tied to its tail. The conclusion is that: "Artificial Intelligence produces artificial results" or in more basic language: "There ain't nobody in charge." John |
12 May 12 - 05:39 AM (#3349869) Subject: RE: screw youtube From: Will Fly Yes, I'm getting increasingly fed up with YouTube - not because they pull my stuff but because of the pop-up ads which they think are appropriate, and because they're forever changing the format of things, and not always for the better. They also keep buggering about with the sound-to-video synching - as you can see and hear here... damned annoying. I prefer Vimeo as a hosting site - better quality and a nicer format - but YouTube gets more exposure. I have over 300 videos on the Tube, but I'm very tempted to buy more server space from my internet host and do my own thing. We'll see... |

12 May 12 - 09:41 AM (#3349961) Subject: RE: screw youtube From: GUEST,999 Dan, I will call you later today. This YouTube thing is really pissing me off. If we let this pass, we are no better than people who hear a kid calling for help and ignore the cry. You have been a damned good friend to so many people on and off Mudcat, me included, that it's a wrong that needs to be redressed. The only reason any of my stuff is on YouTube is due to you. So, listen up bro: start thinking. I'm so damned mad at the moment I can't. Hey, your song had tens of thousands of hits. You had permission to use the photo. Fuck the bastards. Let's get this done, and I do not mean maybe. Bruce |

12 May 12 - 01:27 PM (#3350017) Subject: RE: screw youtube From: Lonesome EJ I take it you wouldn' t want to revise the video to eliminate the pic? Isuppose "Popcorn Sutton" is now a brand like Coca Cola and subject to the same restrictions. Shame. I hope you sell the song for a bundle and show em all. |

12 May 12 - 07:57 PM (#3350162) Subject: RE: screw youtube From: Tootler I suspect there may have been a trade mark issue. If the photo was PD and/or you had permission to use it, then you should challenge You Tube. I have found that it works when they flag up traditional songs as subject to copyright. It would probably help if you were to provide backup evidence. I must admit that I tend to use my own photos in my You Tube videos as there is no problem with copyright then, though I have used photos which were either PD or had a creative commons license on a few videos. Mainly on some of the Woody Guthrie songs I posted. Whatever the faults with You Tube, it's probably the best place to get exposure. How about signing up with Vimeo, Dan? |
