BS: Why no mention?

Subject: BS: Why no mention?
From: Rapparee

This has been going on for a couple of days:

VATICAN CITY (AP) - One of the Vatican's biggest scandals in decades widened Monday with the pope's butler - arrested for allegedly having confidential documents in his home - agreeing to cooperate with investigators, his lawyer said Monday. Paolo Gabriele's pledge to cooperate with Vatican magistrates raises the specter that high-ranking prelates may soon be named in the investigation into leaks of confidential Vatican correspondence that have shed a light on power struggles and intrigue inside the highest levels of the Catholic Church.

And this must also be affecting the UK, Germany, etc.:

merica's newest veterans are filing for disability benefits at a historic rate, claiming to be the most medically and mentally troubled generation of former troops the nation has ever seen. A staggering 45 percent of the 1.6 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are now seeking compensation for injuries they say are service-related. That is more than double the estimate of 21 percent who filed such claims after the Gulf War in the early 1990s, top government officials told The Associated Press.

There are also the elections in Egypt, an explosion in Nairobi, and a lot of other news that has been going on over the last couple or days -- or week. But we continue in the BS section rehashing old stuff, like "US and Gun Laws."

Is there nothing else going on the world worth commenting on except US-bashing, Internet rumors, and things reheated hash?

Geez, if it wasn't for Froggie and a few other things this place would remind me of an bunch of old fogies bitching about the world while whittling around the stove at the general store!

Why no mention in THIS forum?

Well, there are so many $#&*$%^ things going on that there's barely enough time to read some of the headlines, much less comment coherently.

I see all those issues you note from various sources, but picking one or two is like deciding 'which' ants to step on at a picnic.

I suspect that the lack of UK interest is that most of us think that organised religion is irrelevant and the Supreme Pontiff supremely irrelevant.

I suppose reading that The Butler Did It should have excited a remark from those of us who are mystery readers. I did see that yesterday, but I think a lot of us have discovered we have lives beyond the computer and are enjoying the first weekend of summer away from the ol' CPU.

It would seem so! (Now I'm headed back out into the yard, after taking a break in front of the computer. . . )

Wait for the book by the pope's butler. The publicity should guarantee good sales.

Here is my outrage-inspiring ant of the week. Thought about starting a thread, but it was too depressing to want to look at frequently.

And another.

not a mention of the destruction of an Afghani family(father mother and six young children) by one of Mr Obama's drones.

War is shit....drone warfare is worse, hundreds of civilians including many children have been blown to pieces by these "smart" killing machines.
Perhaps they are not so smart, not are the electorate who tolerate this obscenity.

I've been hearing about Louisiana's prisons for years. They started not long after the Civil War making prisons into a form of cheap labor.... and they have become totally shameless about it. (They.. and a couple other states... used to simply work prisoners to death... then arrest some new ones (guess which races?) on vague charges. There were bounties in some places.

Apathy about environmental illiteracy? Don't get me started....

"Why no mention"
My take on things is that thread creeps overtake the subject heading and the lack of trolling has left discussion in many cases logical and well reasoned, i could be wrong.

I reckon that the BS section is the smallest seen in many years since the sections were split. Max can maybe confirm the "stats"

If it wasnt for party politics, homophobia and religious wrongdoing the BS section could become a very dull place.
The peace process in NI "working" has diminished the number of tifortat posts and subjects .
The emergence of Twitter and other social network sites is another reason for the "no mention"
I long for the good old days when a misquote from a dodgy source could
provoke posts of a quality tahrt left u in no doubt where the poster was coming from.
Or maybe we are just getting older and possibly wiser and more tolerant, maybe someone has unplugged the fan so that when the brown lumps start flying they fall to the ground and do not become aired as before. Who knows?

Personal mail and facebook cut down on much of "the ladies illnesses " threads.
Solid information is easier to access.
There are better places for rich, full discussions of BS (and tech) than MC.

Everything listed here has been "mentioned" on the BBC, Aljazeera, CBC, and even CNN has had its share of these stories, esp. the veterans needs. Seek and ye shall find (Change news channels occasionally and get two ears full).
Or is this one of them backward posts suggesting that they are overly "mentioned"?

Dunno what purpose this thread is supposed to have. I feel stupid for having posted to it, but I like to waste time.

And why attack Gargoyle?
