REQ: Recordings of Axon no. 45

Hello-

I teach history at a small college in Oregon, and I am trying to compile a set of songs about city and country for use in a class I will be teaching in the fall. I have been exploring a number of ballads, and thought that "Owd Ned's a right strong chap" from Axon No. 45 would be perfect for this project. But I have not been able to find any recordings using those Axon lyrics. In addition. many sources seem to cite the "Wensleydale Lad" version, but its focus on the church service makes it less suitable for this compilation.

Can anyone point me to a recorded version of "Owd Ned"?

I also welcome any suggestions for other "city songs" from before 1900.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Simon
This site has the tune and words - don't know whether it is just the tune you need or an actual recording. I'll keep looking but here's the link:

Thanks for the link! I was working from the collections on Chetham's Library, which has a facsimile, but no music as far as I can tell. Ideally, I'd like to find an actual recording, but anything would help.

Thanks again.
