Having taken a gap year in 2009 the event returned, this time sponsored by Heritage Lincolnshire, but still recorded and broadcast by the BBC. During its lifetime the event has generated up to 500 new folk songs about our county (although it is still said we only have one – The Lincolnshire Poacher!!!). It has given a platform for, and helped hone the skills of, the county's thriving and talented songwriting community. It has given impetus and confidence to new songwriters and challenged those already seized by the writing bug. It has given life to songs that have gone on to become folk classics - songs such as Dave Evardson's 'North Wall' and Paul Dickinson's anthemic 'Sausage Song'. Not least it has provided an annual meeting place for songwriters to hear and appreciate each other's work. Long may it continue." |
