30 Jun 12 - 01:29 PM (#3369942) Subject: Whitby - Glaisdale Train From: GUEST,Raggytash It's that time of year again, early preparations for the folk week here in Whitby are being put in hand, so information about the annual trip out to Glaisdale. This year the trip takes place on Sunday 19th August and the train leaves Whitby at 12.44 arriving in Glaisdale at 13.08 for the quick dash up the hill to the Arnclife Arms where the landlord and his team be waiting to welcome us for an afternoon of fun and frolics, as always all are welcome. The return train departs Glaisdale at 16.26 arriving in Whitby at 16.56 just in time for early cocktails in the Endeavour. Hope to see you all then. Just one further "announcement" the boat trip to Staithes may NOT be taking place, the Esk Belle is up for sail and at this point in time I do not know if there will be a replacement or if a replacement is sought it will be suitable for trips to Staithes. I'll keep you posted when I have more information. Cheers Nick |

09 Aug 12 - 02:11 AM (#3387862) Subject: RE: Whitby - Glaisdale Train From: gnomad For those awaiting news of boating, Esk Belle II was sold (gone to Tenby) and is currently replaced by two smaller wooden boats. Each carries about 60 persons and no bar. A 'normal' trip to Staithes is planned for Monday 20th, but but this is open to the public and may be of more limited appeal to festival-goers. A folk special has not been arranged. WCC Website see 'latest news' and 'upcoming events'. |
09 Aug 12 - 03:41 AM (#3387874) Subject: RE: Whitby - Glaisdale Train From: GUEST,Raggytash Just so you all know, a "Folk Special" has not been arranged for several reasons, as Gnomad has pointed out:- A. There is no bar on board. B. There is no toilet on board(3 hours at sea someone is going to want one) and the bugger didn't mention C. The engine noise in rather distracting and would diminish the singing somewhat. Maybe next year there will another more suitable vessel when he and I can whisk you off to Staithes in comfort, nay luxury. |

19 Aug 12 - 01:59 PM (#3392290) Subject: RE: Whitby - Glaisdale Train From: GUEST,Raggytash Hi All, Well after a shaky start it turned into not a bad afternoon, in fact I would say a very good afternoon. Thanks to everyone who took part and once again we got someone who astounded us, the two lassies who sang together were amazing. I'm pleased to report that we counted the cash up with the chairman of the Rescue Boat back in the Endeavour and handed over £133 ...........plus some loose change which was left in the collection tin for next time. Once again thank-you very very much Nick & Christine |
