D'Cats--

This came up on the Big Grin thread, so here's a new thread just for NOMADs.

NOrtheast Music And Dance festival, 5-7 November 1999 at Newtown High School, Newtown CT

There's a website with a schedule, but I'm not confident of my blue clicky things yet, so I'll let somebody else post that.

Tim and I will be there Saturday, lookin' for all you mudcats, and havin' a gran' ole time.

See Ya There!

Oh, I wish! Oh, I wish! Though I live in Oklahoma, Connecticut is home to my heart. Maybe someone can take a laptop and post little bulletins from the festival.

One more Mudcatter-filled workshop at NOMAD is called "The Infamous Broken Token" -- a collection of real and parody broken token ballads. Right now it looks heavy on the parody side. I'll be leading it, with a cast that includes Sandy and Caroline Paton, George Stephens & Mary LaMarca, and Judy Cook. It's on Saturday at 9:00 p.m.

Thanks, Dan, for ferreting out all the Mudcat participation. I'm going to print this out to carry with me.

By the way, the D.C. contingent and numerous New England friends are staying at the Best Western Stony Hill Inn in Newtown. There's usually some good after-hours singing there when the festival winds down. You might want to book a room there if you're staying overnight.

Most of the schedule items listed above are mini-concerts either by individuals or panels. Dennis' two workshops on sound are hands on teaching sessions; one for folks who want to be behind the sound board, the other for folks behind the mic.

Two more sessions at NOMAD:

9pm Saturday - the Infamous Broken-Token. A panel concert that will include lots of mudcatters.

11am-1pm Sunday in the Cafeteria. Songs for a Sunday morning. This is a big sing around. There are usually plenty of gospel, sea-songs, and other great chorus songs, but it's not limited to choruses. If you get there early you're pretty sure to get a chance to lead at least one - all depends how many folks show up. Hope to see a lot of you there.

Thanks for sorting the schedule, Dan! I'd like to make a plea for audience at George's and my set, "Hard Times". They put us in the "Double Room", which up until 6 PM (our set time), is Children's Programming - the set before us is "Woodchucks at the Zoo". We're doing a nice depressing set of songs about hard times, changing ways, dying industries and general gloom and doom that I don't think the kiddies will appreciate...Bring your hankies...

Right after us in the same room is Jerry Epstein leading a ballad session - don't know if he'll be doing it by invitation or as a song swap. Then you can cruise over to Broken Tokens or the first hour of the Shanty Blast. Looking forward to seeing folks there!

For folks who can't make it on such short notice, keep in mind that NEFFA is a very similar festival in April in Natick, Massachusetts. It also takes over a high school, is much bigger than NOMAD, and also features a batch of performing Mudcatters.

I just got a note from Kendall Morse suggesting that he might have some room in his car for passengers. He'll be coming down from the Portland, Maine, area, but would be willing to side-track a bit if it would help someone get there who might otherwise miss it. Try a personal message to him if you're interested.

I just called the Ramada Inn only to find out I needed to call by Oct 20 to get the discount. It's $89 per night now. I had to get put on long distance hold for several minutes by an operator who sounded like she'd rather be having a root canal to hear that. (The folks at the 800 number don't know anything about the discount, which doesn't exist anymore, anyway.) I'm waaaay beyond not happy.

Jeri -- Try the Best Western Stony Hill Inn in Newtown. Phone # (203)743-5533. A bunch of us D.C. folks are staying there, plus friends from NY & Boston. You'd be welcome. Kath
