09 Jul 12 - 02:55 PM (#3374070) Subject: SATB arrangement of Paul's Wedding Song? From: Haruo There's a thread currently going on the Methodist Musicians email list about folks wanting to find an SATB arrangement of Paul Stookey's "Wedding Song (There Is Love)". One of the Methodists has posted that "I have been told, from someone who is in a position to know, that there are some legal issues with this music, and that any request to make an arrangement will be refused." Anybody here either (a) have or know of an SATB version of the song or (b) know anything about the legal issues alluded to or (c) know Paul well enough to just ask him if it would be okay for a couple to do their own SATB arrangement? From: GUEST,Stim Any music, whether religious or secular, copyrighted or public domain, can be used in a religious service, without need of permission. That means you can use it however you want, including as an SATB arrangement. Obviously, if you can use the piece having to obtain permission, you may arrange it as you like. Given that, it probably isn't a good idea to provide copies of the arrangement to anyone other than the people who will singer. For MichaelR, and others whose musical studies were neglected, SATB stands for Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Baritone. |

There's sheet music for sale at: musicnotes.com sheetmusicplus.com Rights to the song are supposed to be administered by pdfoundation.org but their main page isn't working. I didn't find sheet music at noelpaulstookey.com. -Joe- |

In mixed choirs, baritones have to choose to be either Tenor or Bass. In male voice TTBB is Top Tenors/2nd Tenors/Baritone/Bass. As a baritone in TTBB I become a Bass in SATB. brad |

From: GUEST,Grishka If a skilled arranger is at hand, it should be possible to write an ad-hoc song with lyrics exactly fitting the persons involved. It may be less of an effort and more of a success than looking for existing material and adapting it. I think PS essentially did the same when he wrote the song on a jet plane to PY's wedding. |
