Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker's latest release is a love letter to the First Ladies of Country. It's a wonderful piece of songwriting and it's embedded in this blog post.

Nice song. Kudos to Josienne for singing country music without faking an American accent.

Lovely thoughts and post.

Much as I love Emmylou, not sure I consider her quite in the same category as Dolly.

But that is just me, and I am glad to know both of these wonderful country musicians are as thoroughly appreciated across the pond as in their own backyards. I'm an old southern hillbilly and it sometimes takes me awhile to appreciate changes. I really super enjoyed the second selection on Clarke and Walker's website but it might take a few listens for me to fully appreciate an authentically British interpretation of classic USA country music. I think I will learn to appreciate the vocals before I will learn to appreciate the instrumentation, which sounded a bit stilted to me.

Please don't take my comments as a criticism. Just my first impressions to the music in the process of also learning and expanding my own horizons.

In other words, I'm an old, non-musician, country music fart willing to learn and very appreciative of the opportunity to do so.

That's just great. I'm sure both Dolly and Emmylou would love to sing harmony for her. She reminds me of a couple of people but is very much her own voice, possibly because of heritage and classical training......whatever, it works with the music. Nice accompaniment and I didn't find it overblown but pretty fitting.....more an embelishment and that's what it should be.

Pretty much sold me in one!

Dolly is probably the better singer, absolutely stunning when at her best which she invariably is; Emmylou probably does, on the whole, better material. Both have helped lift country music out of the realm of crystal chandeliers and dead puppies to a position where it can be taken seriously.

This is a fine tribute by a couple of talented individuals.
