Hello friends, Ok, I often see you referring to midi files. You can listen to these correct??? What do I have to do listen to them? I"ve seen some wonderful lyrics posted and would love to know the tune that goes with them. I'm always up for learning a new song. Hummer.

hoo-boy. Not an easy question to answer. So I will think on how to say it and get back to this tomorrow, hoping someone else has filled you in in the mean-while.

G'day,
The simple answer, which might not be all you want, is that you need a typical sound card and you can play midis using the windows media player. (Assuming your computer is a PC with windows).

Don't hesitate to ask any specific questions, e.g. about sound cards.

If your question is about MIDItext (some threads have some red text representing MIDI files), I'm the one that wrote it, but hang in there, I'm about to unleash a new method which everyone can use, even Mac users.

Cheers,
Alan

And if you don't have a sound card, there is still hope 'cause I can send you some nifty software to allow you to play Midis through that tiny little speaker in your PC. Not hi fi (and not available for NT)but still valuable for hearing all the thousands of Midi tunes you'll find in the Digital Tradition. Regards, John.

*snicker* okay , yeah, that was the easy answer. Wish I could get away with answers like that; becuase the usual response @ w*rk is "huh?"

I have windows media player and a sound card. When I try to listen to midi files though, I wants me to save to a text format. Should I be saving it somewhere specific??? I would really like to start listening to more traditional fold music. I just can't get into country, YUK YUK YUK. Too sad for me. Some of the songs I"ve seen here are funny, some sad, some just look like they would be fun to play!!!!! Listening to them is my obstacle. I can't get it to work for me!!!! More advice wanted please!!! Thanks, Hummer.

Hummer - if you are trying to listen to the "midi" files posted in the forum, they have to be saved as text and then converted to midi format with alan's program. If you are clicking on the links in the DT and it is trying to get you to save, your browser isn't setup correctly.

We had a thread about this a bit ago - others have have had the same problem. I'm not sure we resolved the issue - but we gave it a good shot... The thread is here (http://www.mudcat.org/thread.CFM?threadID=12111).

Hope that helps...
