Subject: New double CD of Quantock songs
From: GUEST,JBlake

The Hotwells Howlers of Bristol are about to release "Love & Liberty", a double CD set of songs collected from the area of the Quantock Hills of north Somerset by Cecil Sharp, the Hammond brothers, and Phyllis Marshall. Although many of the titles are standards, the songs themselves are in most cases delightful and little-known variants. Apart from the quality of the performances, the tracks are valuable and highly interesting source material.

The tracks are :_
1. Roving Bachelor   2. The Press Gang   3. The Lady and the Box   4. Two Quicksteps from the William Winter Tunebook   5. I Wish I Had Never Seen No Man At All.   6. Love and Liberty   7. Sweet Jenny of the Moor   8. Brisk Young Widow 9. The Bonny Bunch of Roses-o   10. Two Dances in 2/4 from the William Winter Tunebook   11. The Cuckoo   12. Georgie   13. Rosabella

1. Crocombe Wassail   2. The Conscript's Departure   3. In Cambridge Town   4. Adieu to Old England   5. I'll Pull off my Hat and Feathers   6. As Johnny was Walking   7. London Town   8. Cold Blows the Wind   9. Two Waltzes from the William Winter Tunebook   10. Come All You Worthy Christians   11. Oh if I was a Butterfly   12. The Bold Princess Royal   13. One Night as I lay on my Bed   14. The Bonny Lighter Boy   15. Oh Madam I will give to Thee

Notes and texts are on the Howlers website(www.hotwellshowlers.webs.com)

The official release event is this coming Sunday 22 July at 8.00 pm upstairs of the Nova Scotia, Cumberland Basin, Bristol BS1 6XL, where the Howlers will perform some of the tracks and talk about the original singers. Free entry includes a free raffle ticket.

The CD set, which has been favourably reviewed by Rod Stradling at mustrad.org.uk, is astonishing and frankly quite unbeatable value at only £10. Order your copies by phoning 01761 - 419224
