Help: Dance Musicians in South Dakota?

Wearing my work hat today: I'm looking for a square or contradance band to play for a meeting I'm organizing in South Dakota. Have checked the CDSS group and individual directories, and there's NO ONE listed in S.D. Any Mudcatters out there who know someone? I just can't believe there's no dance music to be had there.
Thanks,
Kath

Kath, whereabouts in SDAK? Have you checked with any of the state arts councils? You might be able to find one in Wyoming or Nebraska, esp. Wyo, if they didn't have to go clear over to the eastern part of SDak.

You might check with Challenge Music, here in Casper. They have a website, I think it is just their name with .com afterwards. He seems to know a lot of people in the music community. Hell, Chris LeDeux is just up the road from here, who knows....:-) Last I knew he was still in the phone book. While it's not dance music, per se, the ole' professor Peter Schickle is up there, too, ya know.... "Switched on Bach"?!

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more done in Wyo and I'll see what I can do.

Why not just grab a SD phonebook Kath and call all 17 people who live there? Just a thought.

ha ha, 'Spaw. Wyoming claims that distinction! SDak has EIGHTEEN!

Kath, here is a website with a directory of each region for folk dancing.click here http://www.folkdancing.org/directory_intro.html

The South Dakota page did not yield results, but there is a regular contra dance held in Fargo, N. Dakota. There is also a contra dance contact in Moorehead, MN. So, where in S. Dakota is this event?

Kath, I should have mentioned (and you may already know this) that people out here are really used to driving long miles to attend events (such as across a state border). Your band may have to come from a neighboring state. Here is a website of SD folk festivals that may provide a source for a band. click here Black Hills State U., Spearhead.
