From: Richard Bridge I'm trying to fix up the original manufacturer's case for my Daion THE 80W and I could locate the guitar in it a LOT better if I had the guts of an hard foam case to cut up to make a padded liner round the body. Has anyone in SE England damaged one of those foam filled semi-hard cases so that I could scavenge bits from it? I reckon that trying to make my own using injectable foam is likely to lead to a BIG mess! |

From: selby I have done something similar with a fiddle case with expandable foam it worked really well, all you need is a bit of preparation and thought I wont bore you with how I did it unless you wish to attempt it yourself Keith |

From: selby Strip out all the old stuff Wrap the instrument in the lining cloth Wrap the instrument in heavy plastic making sure it is well sealed Put balsa wood packers on the bottom of the case to lift and allow foam under Lay a sheet of clear plastic large enough to allow the instrument in and more besides, over the case Drop the sealed instrument into the plastic sheet Using balsa wood packers centralize the instrument. Bring the plastic sheet over the edges off the case and seal with masking tape Put small holes in the sheet which should be quite taut Blast the expanding foam through the holes making sure you can see it covering everywhere Leave to set Remove the instrument and then the plastic sheet the mould should now be complete, fill any holes in with cellulose putty Trim and level up Remove the instrument from its plastic and liner Ensure it is a snug fit Glue the liner in using a rubber based glue The 2 pieces of thick plastic should give you enough clearance to get instrument in and out You can cut bits out before covering for strings and things or put tins in as you mould Hope this makes sense Just steady away this worked fine on a fiddle but can't see it not working on a guitar Keith |
