Forgot to turn on the night light last night and woke up about 2:00 this morning having just tripped/fallen and landed on the side of the bath tub right on my rib cage... I don't need no stenkin' x-rays to tell me what's what... It hurts when I breathe in and quits when I breathe out... I cracked a rib before a long time ago and seems about the same... Gettin' older sucks... Can't even go to the bathroom without ending up with something broken... B;~( |

14 Aug 12 - 10:17 PM (#3390283) Subject: RE: BS: Sleepwalkin', the fall and cracked rib From: Bill D I KNOW I hit things when I walk in the dark.... I don't need a broken toe or rib... I NEVER turn the night light off. The new bulbs are cheap to operate, and a 4 watt nite-lite bulb is peanuts.... and there are little fixtures that have a light sensor so that they only come on at night when you get near them. So.... as soon as you feel semi-fit, head ye to Ye Olde Hardware store and fetch sompthin' that will "light your way". |

End result neck of femur fracture, followed by hip replacement, and weeks in pain, and on crutches. Think yourself lucky man. I had to wash the dishes, and do the housework for weeks! |
15 Aug 12 - 04:13 AM (#3390343) Subject: RE: BS: Sleepwalkin', the fall and cracked rib From: GUEST,Seayaker The important thing is to do some deep breathing on a regular basis although it might be a bit painful. A pool of stale air in the lungs can cause infection and a cough which will really hurt. I cracked one at work a few years ago turning over a particularly strong and aggressive tup which slammed me back into a wall. |

We were bickering one morning about who should get up first. I'm more stubborn, so Anne lost. She levered herself up on her elbow, which unfortunately was planted on my chest - we both heard the 'crack', but I was the one who felt it. It healed - good wishes for yours. Phil |

Last week she relayed a story of how she was dreaming she was in a bar and had a bottle of water (yeah right) and was excited to find it had a spray attachment...she woke up to the taste of All Purpose Cleaner in her mouth...Yikes! Luckily she only got in a squirt or two before waking. |
15 Aug 12 - 12:23 PM (#3390510) Subject: RE: BS: Sleepwalkin', the fall and cracked rib From: Stilly River Sage Bobert, head down to Home Depot and buy a pack of those little dusk to dawn LED nightlights. You won't have to turn it on again, they last forever, and they use very little power. They're under $10. Or get a rope light (I got a 6' rope for about $7 at Lowes) and put it on a timer. I have the little lights in halls to help avoid tripping or walking into a closed door, and the rope light is arranged along the base of a step that at night could cause a fall or a stubbed toe. That is on a timer. SRS |

15 Aug 12 - 01:20 PM (#3390547) Subject: RE: BS: Sleepwalkin', the fall and cracked rib From: Bat Goddess Oh, geez, John! I'VE had to do all the cooking, meal planning and food shopping for the past five months, thanks to Tom's broken ankle. I hadn't cooked on a regular basis for over 30 years! I use a flashlight when I get up at night -- I need to see, but turning on a light makes me have trouble getting back to sleep. I think I've finally gotten Tom to use a flashlight rather than feel his way around in the dark. I'm really tired of hearing a thump and finding him on the floor... Bobert, take care of yourself! Haven't we all been making the point that getting old is a bitch? We just can't do what we usta did and need to make accommodations accordingly. Linn |
15 Aug 12 - 01:54 PM (#3390567) Subject: RE: BS: Sleepwalkin', the fall and cracked rib From: Bettynh Sleepwalking apparently runs in my ex's family. His sister once woke up with a broken nose (probably from a door jamb). At the clinic, they took her to a private room: "It's ok, you don't have to protect him. Tell us what REALLY happened." As a teen, she'd climbed out a window and woke up two blocks away from home. One of my twins sleepwalked as a kid, but seems to have grown out of it. Walking, talking, getting dressed, opening doors were all possible and he'd be sound asleep. His eyes would be open, making it even spookier. The thing to do was tell him firmly that he's sleepwalking (that'd usually wake him) and lead him back to bed. So, Bobert, if you actually woke up AFTER you fell, maybe you'd better think about other dangers that are near the bedroom. |
