17 Aug 12 - 10:44 PM (#3391637) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Need the title for a Jig From: Artful Codger @ Borchester: You can't link directly to a MIDI file at folkinfo.org--they're generated on demand as temp files which are wiped out periodically (like within an hour). Instead, you have to download the MIDI, rename it, and put it up on your own site. I've begun using Dropbox as a cloud storage file repository, since it doesn't munge the extension when generating download URLs, which means that if you post a link with that URL, other people can click on it and the MIDI should play (or download) for them in the same way Mudcat MIDIs do. A basic Dropbox account is free. |
17 Aug 12 - 11:29 PM (#3391656) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Need the title for a Jig From: Artful Codger P.S. To generate a MIDI (and score) from the ABC, try the folkinfo.org ABC Converter. |
18 Aug 12 - 04:23 AM (#3391689) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Need the title for a Jig From: The Borchester Echo The midi I posted WAS generated from the ABC converter. So how do you make that a permanent file? (PS they used to be . . . ) |

18 Aug 12 - 09:30 AM (#3391788) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Need the title for a Jig From: Mick Pearce (MCP) leeneia - the B tag is a book and I'm guessing refers to one of the Winders of Wyresdale tune books. There are several tunebooks on the site and the tune is certainly in James Winder's 1835 tunebook (though not laid out the same as above). Mick |
