18 Aug 12 - 06:20 AM (#3391735) Subject: Tech: Nero 9 will not burn in track order From: Bonzo3legs It is very annoying that Nero 9 which, was installed on my PC running windows 7 from new, always puts the last music track as the first. I have tried renumbering the tracks with leading zeros but still puts the last track first. Has anyone else had this problem? Burrrn which is a freeware programme does not have this problem. |

18 Aug 12 - 11:10 AM (#3391817) Subject: RE: Tech: Nero 9 will not burn in track order From: Jim Carroll Had this problem myself with this and other versions of Nero - solved it by LOADING ALL TRACKS TO BE BURNED AS A SINGLE SELECTION, HIGHLIGHTING THE HIGHEST NUMBER FIRST AND WORKING DOWN. Only reason I stopped using it and discovered freeware Imgburn as a good replacement was due to purchasing a new Win XP PC which was factory fitted with a newer technology DVD burner that Nero 5 did not support. That PC is now updated to Win 7. I was in the habit of burning many Discs per week; but over the last couple of years due to cheap USB memory sticks and digital file AV players, I rarely need burn more than one disc every couple of months. |

CDs have a shelf life (7 years was mooted to me once). We have spent the last few years storing our collection on external hard discs, and have housed copies in the National Sound Archive at the British Library and at the Irish Traditional Music Archive in Dublin - we have also deposited copies with trusted friends. Any valuable or irreplacable material you have is well worth the money and effort of backing up somewhere. Ironically, it is reel-to-reel recordings that have stood the test of time better than all other formats (some of ours date back to the mid 1960s Regarding Nero and other software; when we replaced our old computer a few years ago we were pissed off to learn that some Nero (and particularly Adobe Audition sound editing progs) would not install on the new computer - a message told us they were "out of date" - bastards! 18 Aug 12 - 03:50 PM (#3391923) Subject: RE: Tech: Nero 9 will not burn in track order From: JohnInKansas Regarding out of date programs with recent Windows, I found that Windows 7 refused to open my Photoshop Elements ver 2, claiming that the "certificate" was expired. It did allow me to open the program if I gave "Administrator Permission." I bought PSE9, which runs on Win7 ok, but is useless as a photo editing tool. It was so worthless that I "gave it to her" since she doesn't do much real editing anyway. I later also tried PSE 10, which is "about equal to PSE 9" as junkware. I have found that I can right click on PSE2 and select "Run as Administrator" and everything I do inside the program then inherits Administrator authority, so I can open bunches of files using the "Browser" in PSE2. The only shortcoming I've found is that in order to open files from Windows Explorer, I have to right click them one at a time and give "Admin Appvl" for each one individually. Using the browser from the inside of PSE2 I can still select 100 files at a time and no "approval" is needed, so it's not a big deal. Bottom line is that you can cheat the OS rules in many cases, if you can figure out how many "special procedures" get invoked when you do. John |
