Hi,
I'm going to be over in Essex (near Braintree) for a couple of weeks 15-29th September. Any folk clubs within easy travelling distance during that period ?

Thanks

There's one at Colchester
And there's Stowfolk at Bishop's Stortford on a Thursday.

Also a sing around at the Half Moon, Bishop's Storford every other Sunday

I'm sure that there's another thread on this subject. Perhaps they could be asssociated or combined ?

Thanks GF, however that info (if I could find it) may be out of date so I'd like to keep this one going

I'm going to be down that way (Essex/Herts/suffolk/norfolk) during part of the same period, and looking for clubs where I can do promo floor spots. I'm hoping to get bookings in the area, so looking for clubs wot book guests, not just singarounds/sessions.

Big county. Really two or three counties stuck together, and theborders aren't too relevant. For example Stortford is actually in Hertfordshire,
and of course half of East London used to be part of Essex.

Does Haverfolk count?

Duton Hill is not far at all from Braintree, and has Pete Coe as guest on Thursday 20th September.

(I'm just off to update the rest of the winter guests for the web site now)

Didn't know about Duton Hill. I've just enquired about a floor spot somewhere else on 20th, but I'll try and get to Duton Hill next time I'm down that way.
Apologies to Guest (OP) if I seem to be hi-jacking the thread!

Duton Hill does have guests, but generally for the door take and it's a small club, so don't expect to get rich on it. Mostly the guests are fairly local - Pete Coe's booking next week is an exception.
Worth a visit though.

The one at Bishop's Stortford is Stortfolk, not Stowfolk (that's something else entirely)

There's also The Hoy at Anchor in Leigh On Sea, The FaB Club (Folk and Blues) at Grays,
(now I'm going to have to look at Mardles...)
Music at the Bluebell Inn, Hempstead and Wivenhoe Folk Club near Colchester.

Hi Fidjit

Can you confirm that the sing-around at the Half Moon, Bishop's Storford every other Sunday is still running?

Also

do you know if the Half Moon Blues Jam alternate Wednesdays is still running?

I will use the information to update the Folk Orbit

I'm grateful for any help with reliable updates that you can give.

Colin

Pedantically, Sawbridgeworth is over the Herts border. As is Stortford.

Of course the Kingdom of Essex included most of Hertfordshire - but then it also included Kent at one time.

There's a pretty thorough list of clubs/sessions/singaroungs at essexfolk.org.uk
Tried to make a link, but it didn't work.

essexfolk.og.uk - but some of those listed are sessions. Still, it's a good sized list.
