01 Oct 12 - 10:33 AM (#3412542) Subject: Lyr Req: Empty to be Filled From: GUEST,highlandman at work Can anyone help dig up the lyrics to this early "Jesus music" song: The chorus of it is something like: "Father, break me, take me through the fire Oh Father, hold me, mold me just as you desire I am just a cup to overflow your will But first I must be empty to be filled." I think it was by Terry and/or John Michael Talbot, late seventies perhaps? I can find occasional conflicting references to it but can't find the whole thing. The tune and accompaniment are well fixed in my motor memory but the cognitive brain cells that knew the words have long gone. Thanks in advance -Glenn |

Just now (before checking here) I had the idea it might have been called "The Alabaster Jar", but that warn't it neither. However, Googling that led me to this Joy Explosion where I learn it was given the unhelpful title "Father." All is well that ends well... thanks for the help! -Glenn |
09 Nov 12 - 11:52 PM (#3434005) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Empty to be Filled From: GUEST,Mike Song is titled "Father". Was sung by Terry Talbot on his 1978 album "A Time to Laugh, A Time to Sing" The alabaster case of oil was opened and washing the feet of Jesus. The sweet perfume was poured. I am like the cask I must be broken so from my heart will flow a life unto my Lord. CHORUS: Father break me. Take me through the fire. Oh Father hold me, mold me, just as You desire. I am just a cup to overflow Your will, but I know I must be empty to be filled. I saw myself as only drifting. Lost upon the water. Sinking like a stone. But then Your tide washed around me. I was lifted. If I follow the Morning Star I'll be sailing home. CHORUS: Father break me. Take me through the fire. Oh Father hold me, mold me, just as You desire. I am just a cup to overflow Your will, but first I must be empty to be filled |

The Albaster case The alabastar case of oil was broken, And washen the feet of jesus That sweet perfume was poured I am like the cask I must be broken So from my life will flow A life unto my lord. Father break me, and take me through the fire oh, father hold me mold me just as you desire, I am just a cup to overflow your will, and I know I must be empty to be filled. I saw myself as only drifting , As lost upon the waters and sinking like a stone But then your tide washed around me I was lifted And if I follow the morning star Ill be sailing home Repeat chorus. |
