I wonder if anyone can help with this, I heard this song at the weekend and a couple of lines from the chorus have been stuck in my head, which is usually an indicator that it's one I need to try and learn, but I can't find the lyrics. What I have from the chorus is:

The present time is oors
The present time is oors
Sae haud a cheerin spark aboot
The present time is oors

Thank you.

See number 37 on that page. It has a midi and an mp3 of the song.

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately all there is, is a wee keyboard pick out of the tune - no words. Presumably there would be with the book. I'll off and have a wee look to find it.

I worked some of my internet magic with the Grieg-Duncan collection, and I was able to extract this much, but I can't guarantee it's complete:

Come, let us a' be hearty, boys, the moments we are here,
And banter o'er our earthly joys, they're only twa-three year,
They're only two-three year, my boys, and maybe only hoors;
So haud a jeering spark aboot, the present time is oors,

Oh, the present time is oors, the present time is oors.
So haud a jeerin' spark aboot, the present time is oors.

Awa wi' a yer gaudy shirts, what signifies a show?
For multitudes o' cares and griefs they only prove a foe.
A raggit coat wi' elbucks oot will bang the winter shoo'rs, [elbows; defeat
So haud a jeerin' spark aboot, the present time is oors.

Let ministers say what they will, they'll tell ye this and that,
Sae blithe are we and sae are they when quietly they meet,
When quietly they do sit roon, secure wi' lockit doors,
So merrily they laugh and sing, The present time is oors.

They'll bid ye raise yer hopes abeen, and greet where'er ye dwell,
They'll mak' ye lairds ayont the meen, but grip the gless themsel',
But let us learn tae be wise, and pu' the sweetest floo'rs,
Leave thistle leaves to them that please, the present time is oors.
