Tech: BS Filter not working??

From: Joe Offer

As many of you know, Mudcat has a feature that will filter out all BS threads for you, or it can give you the BS and music threads mixed together. I received a couple of reports of problems this week. I thought I had fixed them, but then I received a report just now that the BS filter wasn't working (but the thread-mixing is OK).

Anybody else use the BS filter? Is it working for you?

Once I've gathered data, I'll report it to Max.

Hi again Joe,

I was able to use the Filter when I had my problem, but you have to re-input each time you went to the Forum listings, even after reading one thread.

Purely speculation, but you should be able to log in here, and get your "log in cookie" regardless of "cookie blocker settings," but a blocker might block the separate cookie you get to record your site preferences, if you don't have mudcat listed as an "always allow" site.

Note that I don't know that the 'cat gives you separate cookies for such things, but I generally see more than one mudcat cookie when I go look at mine.

Is it possible that you have a blocker or a change to a blocker program (maybe an update?) that's interfering?

Purely a sWAG, so nobody should worry over it if I'm just fullofit this morning.

sWAG = SWAG with little S in it(?)

If I enter BS: into the filter box it gets rid of nearly all of them. However it still gives the list below the normal threads with about five thread titles that dont start with BS:

That said, like RTim it has to be re-entered evry time you come back to the Lyrics and Knowledge page.

I suppose I use it - or it may be the default setting - music on top, BS below.

I had set the BS half of the page to not show, but its been back the last week, and I haven't been able to hide it. So, yes, something is not working.

Our terms are a bit confusing. The "BS Filter" is something you select on the Mudcat registration page, and it gives you a cookie setting that filters out all the BS threads from your view of the Forum Menu. There are three settings with the option:
  1. Default setting - display all threads, Music threads on the top, BS on the bottom
  2. Display music threads only, and filter out all BS threads all the time
  3. Display Music and BS threads mixed together, shown in descending order with the thread most recently posted to on top
Personally, I have no use for options 2 and 3, and I'm pleased as punch with the default setting; but some people do like 2 and 3 - but apparently they stopped working during the last week.
To set these options, you have to ask me, since I'm the one who does the data entry on the membership roster. But it's not working right now, so I'll have to ask Max to fix it.

The Filter (our fastest and most reliable search engine) is at the top of the Forum Menu list of threads, and it works very well for finding things by thread name.
