Tune Add: Íosa Bháin: Did Seán Ó Riada write music

Hey all...I have a question about a religious song in Irish called "A Íosa Bháin." I've been told that Seán Ó Riada may have written the music for the song (the lyrics are traditional). I know someone who wants to record the song, so we really need to get this figured out. Does anyone out there know if Ó Riada wrote or arranged the music for this song?

Hi GUESTFaolRua

If you're in Ireland (or a reasonably priced phonecall away), your best bet is to contact Irish Traditional Music Archive in Dublin - I'm not sure if they can cope speedily with email enquiries.

I don't recognise the title, offhand, but will have a look through my own resources.

Regards

Contacting Peadar O Riada through his website would work also.

Looks like O Riada set it to music, alright - note copyright acknowledgement to his widow.

I don't know how i ended up here but i can tell you Sean did write the music as part of his second Mass which is called the Glenstall Mass (1967). We recorded it in the 1970's and it is available along with the more common 1st Mass that he composed. The cd also contains the pdf files of the music for download via computer. It is available from Gael Linn under the title Ceol an Aifrinn. If having trouble with it, you can get back me directly via my bit of a website at http://www.peadaroriada.ie/
