The words, as far as I've been able to transcribe them are as follows: I sat on a bridge across the stream And imagined you stood on the other side, I told you the thoughts of my summer dream Of my lonely love and my wounded pride. And even though I knew you well I looked a stranger in the eyes I told you the truth I had to tell And you showed no anger nor surprise I turned away from my xxxxx the shame In a flood of tears I tried to hide Then a voice called out of a xxxxx And a child was standing by my side Gone too soon on a summer day Dark and cold as a winter moon And the flood would wash the bridge away And I will stand on the bank alone The tune is lovely, and is my earworm at the moment. Internet searches have found nothing. My feeling is that it's not traditional, so there must be a writer/composer out there somewhere. Does anyone recognise it? |
