I just searched but didn't find the lyrics to this song. So here is my transciption of the Mitchell Trio's version.

Dark Shadows and Empty Hallways
(As sung by the Mitchell Trio)

Dark shadows and empty hallways
That reach out to enfold the lonely
To hide falling tears when a lover has gone

Listening for her step on the stair
Looking out and hoping she's there
Living every day with despair

Since she's gone
(Dark shadows and empty hallways)
Life is so lonely
(That reach out to enfold the lonely)
So lonely when love has gone
(To hide falling tears when a lover has gone)

(When love has gone)

And if you see my baby
Just tell her there is no rainbow for me
And if you talk to my baby
Just tell her I'm as blue as can be

How can I make tomorrow
When I can't bear to live through today
My heart is filled with sorrow
There is no life and now I can't find my way

(Dark shadows and empty hallways)
Life is so lonely
(That reach out to enfold the lonely)
So lonely
(To hide falling tears when a lover has gone)
When love has gone

Looking for a break in the storm
(Looking for a break in the storm)
Reaching out for some place that's warm
(Reaching out for some place that's warm)
Knowing I can't live since she's gone
(Knowing I can't live since she's gone)
Gone away

(Dark shadows and empty hallways)
Life is so lonely
(That reach out to enfold the lonely)
So lonely
(To hide falling tears when a lover has gone)
So lonely

So a few more Mitchell Trio songs that are not on mudcat. This, like

the former one, was also released only on the compilation album "Best

of the Chad Mitchell Trio: The Mercury Years".

Deal with the Ladies
(As sung by the Mitchell Trio)

Like to deal with the ladies
Like to give 'em a real hard time
Like to make 'em sigh
Like to make 'em cry over me

Like to swing with the good times
Like to have me a real live ball
Doin' what I can like a dirty ole man
Tee Hee

Like to have 'em just a-hangin' around
Wondering where I've been
Like to see 'em with the big brown eyes
Just drinkin' me in
(Ya ta ta ta)

I like to deal with the ladies (deal with the ladies)
I like to hang 'em up on my line (woo, woo)
Treat 'em kinda rough
But they never get enough of me
Rat tat tat tat tat

Like to have 'em just a-hangin' around
Wondering where I've been
I like to see 'em with the big brown eyes
Just drinkin' me in
(Ya ta ta ta)

Like to deal with the ladies (deal with the ladies)
Like to give 'em a real hard time (woo, woo)
Like to make 'em sigh
Like to make 'em cry over
Like to make 'em bawl
Like to make 'em crawl over
Like to make 'em weep
Like to make 'em creep after me
Rat tat tat tat tat
Yeah

From: Jason Xion Wang

Take Me to Tomorrow
(As sung by the Mitchell Trio)

Hey everybody, tell me how do you feel
Are you satisfied with your life, do you think it's real
Tell me how is your head, what are your dreams
Do you have any plans, do you have any schemes
Do you care about- about anybody
I'd like to know, is the answer no

Take me to tomorrow, take me there today
I've had my fill of sorrow and live in this way
Take me to tomorrow, that's where I'd like to be
The day after tomorrow is waiting for me

Hey everybody, what's on your mind (oh I don't know)
Do you think there's nowhere else to go, there's nothing left to find? (I got more)
Are you happy where you are, do you have anything to share (oh I can't say)
Do you think you're gonna waste your life spending it there (oh yeah)
Would you like to find a way out, do think it's worth a try (yeah, yeah)
I'd like to know, is the answer no
Well, maybe so

Take me to tomorrow, take me there today
I've had my fill of sorrow and live in your way
Take me to tomorrow, that's where I'd like to be
The day after tomorrow is waiting for me

Take me to tomorrow, take me there today
I've had my fill of sorrow and live in your way
Take me to tomorrow, that's where I'd like to be
The day after tomorrow is waiting for me
The day after tomorrow is waiting
The day after tomorrow is waiting for me

You can hear the writer of the song, Tammy St John, sing 'Dark Shadows and Empty Hallways' at that Youtube link.

"Like to Deal with the Ladies" was also on The Mitchell Trio Alive! – which was on Reprise, not Mercury, so it's strange to see it on an album called The Mercury Years.

"Dark Shadows and Empty Highways" was written by Fangette Enzel Willett, not Tammy St John (although it was first released by Tammy St. John in 1965). The Mitchell Trio (and the Chad Mitchell Trio) did very little that I didn't like, but I think that recording is just awful.

I think the song was inspired by "Heartbreak Hotel."

The recording could be better. For one thing, the background music drowns the singer out. I take it from the comments that she was a teenager, and clearly had little understanding of rejection, loneliness and depression.

It's weird to see my own post from decades ago again on the mudcat.org main page. I confess that I have only heard The Mitchell Trio's version of the song and that I actually like it.

leeneia, Tammy St John was 14 years old when she recorded the song.

Jason, each to his/her own. It was just so far from everything else the Trio did, so far into the "easy listening," over-orchestrated camp, that I found it very hard listening. De gustibus non disputandum est.
