Hi Don. We put our names down for Saturday via FBook. Do we have to send an email as well ?

Negative Sue.

You are about to be added to the list, as will anyone who contacts through FB.

I set up the E-Mail especially for the Cat and it is disposable after the event.

So folks Tone Deaf Leopard will attend on Saturday. Be afraid.....be very.......Oh, what the heck.

Actually they are very clever in a sometimes Les Dawson kind of way, and only occasionally carnivorous.

Let me know nearer the time when you will be there Hils, and I'll firm up an open mike spot for you.

I'm looking to keep the spots decently long, so plan on a half hour set.

I've got you pencilled in as a definite maybe.

How very kind, Don. Be assured that as soon as I know what we're up to that weekend I'll let you know. If we can make it I'd enjoy doing a floorspot! Looks like you're setting up a fabulous weekend!

Many thanks for your kind words, Sue! I thoroughly enjoyed the evening at Crayside, you got a fair bit of talent involved there, just wish I hadn't had to leave so early.

Any other takers.

Just to dispel any misconceptions, in spite of the garden of sounds tag, the whole event is indoors.

There may well be a firepit blazing in the back patio/garden area, to warm those who need regular smog breaks.

Well actually it's rather like a huge steel drum head with a fire blazing away in it, roughly three feet off the ground.

When it's well alight you can't stand much closer than about six feet.

I am waiting for several confirmations, following which I can publish a full update.

I still have lots of free spots on Saturday, and unless a good few of them are taken up, we'll likely end up with an afternoon singaround, followed by Ty and Aysha Watling and RTB and the Strangers entertaining in the evening.

Sunday is not quite complete, but the following is what we have so far:

SUNDAY:   NOON – 10.30 pm

Noon – 1.00 pm

1.00 pm – 1.30 pm

1.30 pm – 2.00 pm

2.00 pm – 2.30 pm

2.30 pm – 3.00 pm:       Allan Richardson

3.00 pm –3.30 pm       "No Worries"

3.30 pm – 4.00 pm

4.00 pm – 4.30 pm       Norman "Brooksie" Brooks

4.30 pm – 5.00 pm

5.00 pm – 6.30 pm        GUESTS:        SIMON & VICKY

6.30 pm – 8.00 pm Interval for nosh etc.

8.00 pm – 10.30 pm Survivors mixed singaround/session.

"Border Crossing" are taking up one of the vacant slots, I believe either 3.30 or 4.30

And there's room for yorself Hils, if you want to take the other, or if you prefer one of the earlier spots Noon through till 2.00 there's a choice of four.

If however you are coming on Saturday you can at the moment have any slot you choose or join the singaround if that's how it ends up.

Hope this makes some kind of sense.

Don T.

Please ignore that message.

It came from my deleting old posts and updating the layout. The festival is going ahead.

Unfortunately Ty & Aysha Watling have had to pull out, and I'll be discussing alternatives with the hosts.

Other than that, everythingis exactly as planned.

Typical Facebook going off half cocked and getting everything wrong.

Now I have to make sure I contact everybody involved to put it right.

Thanks Don. I got a bit muddled, and thought that you were allocating spots yourself. Normally, anything to do with spots should be also to do with leopards. So can we claim that 2 - 2.30 Sunday spot.?
The male of the species is in his own den at present, but I expect to see him soon. Will discuss the prospect of playing on Saturday as well, as you need some help.

Hartley Morris Men are performing in Wrotham from 1 - 4pm on Saturday for the Christmas Lights. We would be very happy to come up to The Vigo afterwards to dance, do our Mummers play, sing or do all or some of those if there is a slot from 4pm onwards.
Phil Burkin will be with us and is also happy to do a solo spot if required.

Hi folks,

The spot originally intended for Ty & Aysha has been re-allocated by Andy to "Eggibread + 1" from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm.

This leaves room for Hartley Morris and my good friend Phil to take the period between 4.30 pm and 6.00 pm in whatever proportion you prefer.

I look forward to seeing you soon after 4 pm.

You will add greatly to the Folk & Ale.

Thank you for volunteering.

What will happen with the early part of Saturday, assuming no open mic acts turn up on spec, is that we will make it a singaround for all who are there, and you will of course be most welcome if you want to come.

But bear in mind that Trevor may not be really well enough for two on the trot.

Dean and myself would like to say how much we enjoyed Sunday at the Vigo Inn, not only playing but listening to the talents of Richard, No Worries, Norman, Hilary and also Alan Richardson who's songs were just excellent.

This is the first time i have ever been to this pub, and would like to thank Andy and Val for their hospitality together with the locals that we met.

I hope that this can be an annual event, and look forward to coming to one of the acoustic nights soon.

Once again Don thanks for putting it on, a thoroughly great afternoon.

Cheers Wee Jock

She was about 90 in the shade, and the public bar was heated mostly with a columnar paraffin burning Aladdin Blue Flame heater - not even fixed to a wall bracket but in the middle of the floor. I am not sure but think it was not a safety type (with the mechanism that put out the flame instantly if it was tilted) either. Also in that bar was the daddlums table.

I have no memory of where the ladies was but the gents was in an outhouse a bit down the road which has now fallen down. The urinals had (by design) only half a roof and the young bucks used to compete to see who could pee right over the 6 foot 6 (or maybe 7 foot) wall out into the field. This game was usually won by the son of a well known London solicitor and thriller writer.

For a long time the pub was closed while manoeuvres went on to try to get planning permission for gazillions of ticky-tack box houses on the huge site but thankfully they failed, and thank heavens it is back as a pub after so long (and more than once) out of use.

My stepson fell off his motor-scooter once on the bend outside and we managed to squeeze it into the back of the Isuzu Trouper we then had.

No longer obvious as a road, but diagonally left between the road down to Vigo village (and Knights timber) and triad down into Wrotham was the old turnpike. It goes down the drive to the large house formerly owned by a very wealthy doctor and then into an overgrown sunken lane. I've driven up it successfully with an off-roader driven by Colin Dawson the then owner and editor of Offroader International magazine, and outside the large house a pretty girl was sunbathing topless on the lawn - and she ran VERY fast into the house when a huge offroader lumbered out of the undergrowth. I was on the bonnet at the time pulling branches and brambles aside. Not long afterwards I tried to come up it with Andy Bush - a motoring journo and the publicity officer for the All Wheel Drive club - in a £50,000 top of the range Range Rover that he had on test - but the bloody thing had road tyres on and we just sat at the bottom trying to get over a lateral tree root with the stupid tyres going round and the stupid traction control going on and off. If it had had proper difflocks there would have been no trouble.

Not yet fully formulated, but tentatively there should be weekend events with camping (a la the Pigs Ear events and Knockholt) at Easter weekend and August Bank Holiday, with a Christmas get together inside as this one.

Indeed it is Sue.

Incidentally, you and Trevor were much missed, but Richard stepped in to fill the spot and very nicely too.

Hope you are much better now.

Don T.

While your courtesy Don towards what I fear was at best patchy playing and singing on my part is most kind I am already committed for Easter.

Excellent news that this will continue next year together with the addition of Easter and the August Bank Holiday, and as stated already in my previous thread a good time was had by all on Sunday.

Cheers

Many thanks to Don and the Vigo for a very enjoyable afternoon on Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed all the performances that I saw and you all put me at my ease for my set aswell. Lovely pub, very welcoming with good beer!

Sorry I missed you Richard, I saw you leave across a crowded room!

Alas, I am also committed for Easter, or at least I should be!

Thanks for bringing back memories Richard, I used to go to the Vigo in the 70's with Derek my first husband, I remember Lilian very well,in the days before piped musac and slot machines this pub was a wonderful "real" pub, games in the bar, (does anyone play Dadlums now)and on Saturdays a chap used to turn up selling meat for our Sunday roast!
Great to know that The Vigo is a pub once more, just wish I wasn't so far away.
Wendy

Hi Wendy - the landlord said he still had the daddlums table out the back - and I thought he said in another bar but I don't see exactly where it would have been.

The daddlums table is actually in the corner at the far end of the bar, opposite a perfectly tuned upright piano with another enclosed log fire, and, as far as I know, there is a group of players who use it sstill

For patrons in that bar, there is a TV on the wall, which, in addition to normal use can, on these musical occasions be used to watch the acts in the bar we use.

I will be talking to Andy about extension speakers to carry the music through to that bar.

For those who, like me, will be turkeyed out, "Junk & Disorderly" will be guests at the Vigo on Friday 28th December and if I get a few people interested we may put on a little show either in laid back singaround or open mic style leading up to it from the afternoon.

It is just before the Winter Sing on the Sunday at Lower Stoke (free plug) but I for one will manage both.

Others interested please signify.
Don T.
