He and Myrtle were a familiar sight on the morris scene in Kent. He walked with the Jack in the Green at Rochester Sweeps Festival and played double bass with The Loose Knit Band for Loose Women. Until last year The Loose Knit band hosted the Sailing Club sessions at Sidmouth (now at another pub, though Terry was too unwell to attend this year). I am so very sad to hear this as yesterday I found out that Terry was very ill and was going to try and see him as soon as I could. I met Terry in 1971 when he went to see Hartley Morris and decided to start a morris side, and so started Headcorn Morris and Headcorn Folk Club and without Terry all the off shoots of Morris sides and singers that evolved from those early days would probably never have happened. He had a wonderful sense of humour and touched everyone he met with his love and fantastic sense of fun and twinkle in his eye. He was a renowned painting and instument restorer,he had been rebuilding my mandoline since 1975 and whenever I saw him always said he had picked it up "last week" ! Bless you Terry, the world will be a sadder place without you,but the folk band up in heaven has gained a bass player without equal! lighting a candle with love Wendy x |

The story of how he tried to smuggle rather large instrumemts into the house without Myrtle knowing. His mastery of two chords on any instrument. All stuff to make you smile. He was one of life's characters. He was also godfather to the 7Chanpions Molly Dancers, and a good mate. |

I first met him in 1976 when I was a teenager and admired his outlook on life. I cannot forget his instructions on how to play the double bass - "if you hold any of the strings at 3", 6" or 9" from the top you will never hit a bum note ! " The world is now certainly a poorer place. |

Terry Pearson I met Terry some years back at Sidmouth, as a result of a confusion over a message left on the Festival message board ~ I took it, assuming it was for me, then had to explain to Terry when I was introduced to him later in the week why his friend had appeared not to have contacted him...! We shared a laugh (and a drink!) over it, and chatted at some length about our family trees (without finding any firm links, it has to be said); I liked Terry, and used to renew the contact at subsequent Sidmouths for a number of years. I am sorry to learn of his passing, and shall miss seeing him and his double bass around the town.... |
