28 Oct 99 - 07:20 AM (#128917) Subject: The Weavers first daughter From: Patrish(inactive) I heard this song a couple of years ago and I keep hearing snippets inside my head "he loved her so dearly to lose her so early" It was sung by a lady with a wonderful voice who also sang a song about "taking the monn from the man" If possible I'd like the words for that as well. Hope you are all fit and well out there. kindest regards Patrish |

20 Jan 14 - 07:48 PM (#3594015) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Weavers first daughter From: maeve I found this web page about Marilyn Middleton Pollock: http://mainlynorfolk.info/folk/records/middletonpollock.html On her album Marilyn Middleton Pollock: A Doll's House, Fellside Recordings FECD86 (CD, UK, 1992) Track 8 is "The Weaver's Four Daughters"(4.53) credited to Spurlock. On her album Nobody Knows You: Marilyn Middleton Pollock, Fellside Recordings FE064 (LP, UK, 1988) Track 3 is "Man in the Moon" credited again to Jerry Spurlock- perhaps this is the "moon from the man" song? |
20 Jan 14 - 07:58 PM (#3594021) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Weavers first daughter From: maeve Regarding "Man in the Moon", the lyrics are already on Mudcat. Here's a thread in which an inquiry was made for lyrics and chords of "Man in the Moon . Marilyn Middleton Pollock posted the lyrics and some information there in March of 2013, as well as her contact information. Lyrics here in the Mudcat Forum as "The Man In The Moon " include the remembered line, "but you can't take the man from the moon." Here is a link to "The Man in the Moon" sung by Jerry Spurlock |

21 Jan 14 - 12:50 PM (#3594310) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Weavers first daughter From: My guru always said Thanks for the heads-up Maeve, here's what I transcribed: The weaver's first daughter was born in the Spring But the low moon lay sleeping and the birds would not sing She died on the eve of her very first day But no tear would he shed as he laid her away But he grieved oh so dearly to lose her so early And he sat by his loom in the gloom of the night The weaver's next daughter was born with the sun At the dawning of Summer when a new day had begun She died of the pox in her very first year As he laid her away he would shed not a tear But he grieved oh so dearly to lose her so early And he walked in the rain with the cane of a willow The weaver's third daughter was born with the Fall When the leaves on the trees whispered soft on the wall She was found in the river with her hand on the shore She was three years of age but he cried not once more And he grieved oh so dearly to lose her so early And he stood by the sea lost with dreams in his head The weaver's fourth daughter was born with the snow On a cold Winters eve but he let his heart go But she left in the Spring of her Seventeenth year With a gypsy from Spain with a ring in his ear And he grieved oh so dearly to lose her so early But no tear would he shed as he read from his book…. And he grieved oh so dearly to lose her so early But no tear would he shed as he read from his book By the fire |
21 Jan 14 - 01:07 PM (#3594314) Subject: Lyr Add: THE WEAVER'S FOUR DAUGHTERS (via Pollock) From: Jim Dixon THE WEAVER'S FOUR DAUGHTERS As sung by Marilyn Middleton Pollock* on "A Doll's House" (1999) 1. The weaver's first daughter was born in the spring, When the lone moon lay sleeping and the birds would not sing. She died on the eve of her very first day, But no tear would he shed as he laid her away. But he grieved, oh, so dearly to lose her so early, And he sat by his loom in the gloom of the night. 2. The weaver's next daughter was born with the sun, At the dawning of summer when a new day begun. She died of the pox in her very first year. As he laid her away, he would shed not a tear, But he grieved, oh, so dearly to lose her so early, And he walked in the rain with the cane of a willow. 3. The weaver's third daughter was born with the fall, When the leaves on the trees whispered soft on the wall. She was found in the river with her hand on the shore. She was three years of age, but he cried not once more, And he grieved, oh, so dearly to lose her so early, And he stood by the sea, lost with dreams in his hair. 4. The weaver's fourth daughter was born with the snow, On a cold winter's eve when he let his heart go, But she left him the spring of her seventeenth year, With a gypsy from Spain with a ring in his ear, And he grieved, oh, so dearly to lose her so early, But no tear would he shed as he read from his book By the fire. And he grieved, oh, so dearly to lose her so early, But no tear would he shed as he read from his book By the fire. [* She is listed at AllMusic.com as Marilyn Pollock and at Spotify as Marilyn Middleton, despite that the album cover (which can be viewed at both sites) clearly says "Marilyn Middleton Pollock." Also, Spotify omits the apostrophes from both the album title and the song title.] |
