29 Oct 12 - 08:20 PM (#3428034) Subject: RE: Jesse Winchester tribute CD From: Beer It would have been nice if some Canadian influence had been on it. Just to reflect his earlier years when he was in Montreal. Great line up though. can't disagree with it. Adrien |

30 Oct 12 - 12:10 PM (#3428368) Subject: RE: Jesse Winchester tribute CD From: GUEST,bankley okay Beer, how about this ? these folks are still around, still playing and were in Montreal in JW's early times there. They all had an association either casual or more personal, and are fine artists in their own right. I picked songs that the 'names' didn't cover. He sure has a lot of good 'uns. Two More Bottles of Wine : Willie Dunn Yankee Lady : Penny Lang (why not ?) Black Dog : Bruce Murdoch Twigs and Seeds : Danny Greenspoon Midnight Bus : Bobby Cohen and Marty Harris Isn't That So ?: Chris Rawlings Let the Rough Side Drag : Bill Garret & Sharon Ryan Lay Down Your Burden : Kevin Head Snow : Bill Russell Laisser les Bontemps Rouler : Ville Emard Blues Band L'air de La Louisiane : (instrumental) Rick Whitelaw, Anna McGarrigle and me if I had serious cash, I'd be dangerous ! sorry if I left anyone out. these are just the folks I know, and are still kickin' and pickin' |

30 Oct 12 - 04:45 PM (#3428520) Subject: RE: Jesse Winchester tribute CD From: GUEST "When I was sick last year, fixing to die, some friends decided to make a CD of various artists performing my songs. Jimmy Buffett wrote me around Christmastime with the news. I struggled out of my chair and did a little boogaloo around the livingroom," says Jesse Winchester at www.jessewinchester.com. I assume Jimmy Buffett and Elvis Costello invited people like James Taylor, Rosanne Cash and Lucinda Williams because those are the people they knew and the people they thought would sell thousands of CD's to help Jesse in his illness. I, for one, applaud them. Making a fantasy list of obscure Montreal musicians from 40 or 45 years ago doesn't do anyone any good. They took the initiative and did it all as a gift to Jesse. Making lists of Montreal singers who knew Jesse thirty or forty years ago just smacks of pettiness. |

30 Oct 12 - 05:17 PM (#3428537) Subject: RE: Jesse Winchester tribute CD From: judyac bankley Jesse didn't write "Two More Bottles" of Wine". I think "Little Glass of Wine" is the only song he wrote with "wine" in the title. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpmhNRnlgfM Would this song suit Willie Dunn? I don't know his music at all. |
30 Oct 12 - 07:13 PM (#3428594) Subject: RE: Jesse Winchester tribute CD From: GUEST,bankley pettiness ? whatever , just some good memories of a special time and it does me some good remembering wine ? ya, Willie would like it and do a fine job,, thanks judyac now I'll leave the cafe to the deeper cats. cya. |
30 Oct 12 - 10:20 PM (#3428660) Subject: RE: Jesse Winchester tribute CD From: Beer Man, just when we were going to have some fun someone who wants to remain whatever steps in. There is no greater performer than Jessie. We all love him. I tuned into "Little Glass of Wine" and you know, I think Willie would do a fine job of it judyac. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Dunn When Willie played at a festival i was involved with, he told me it was over 40 years since he had seen Jessie (they were friends. To what degree i don't know.). It was a great reunion. with Penny Lang being there, Ron Bankley, and Bruce Murdoch. what a time. ad. |
