Lyr Req: Song About Daddy

From: GUEST,Martin Dardis

The following is all I have to go on and the lyrics
may not be right, but it may jog somebody's memory.
Thanks

Come closer to daddy my darling
There's something I want you to do
I want you to make me a promise
I want you to keep it true
They say that I'm wicked and all that is bad
And there may be a part of it true
But I've been a good daddy to you
Tomorrow there taking you from me
It will break daddy's heart when you gone
Always think of daddy
What ever you may do

Martin, I have Googled around for a half hour and found zip. May I ask a few questions?

About when did you first hear it? Where (in a bar, church, at a party, club, etc)? What country?

What I'm coming up with is stuff like

"Come close my baby girl
I've got something I need to say
I'll miss you my darling child
I'm so sorry I gotta go away
So say goodbye cos daddy's going to heaven now
So say goodbye cos daddy's going to heaven now"

and I don't think that's it.

LITTLE CHILD (DADDY DEAR)
Words and music by Wayne Shanklin
As recorded by Eddie Albert and Sondra Lee, 1956.

Tell me, please, daddy dear: is the world really round?
Tell me: where is the bluebird of happiness found?
Tell me: why is the sky up above so blue?
And when you were a child, did your daddy tell you?
What becomes of the sun when it falls in the sea?
And who lights it again, bright as bright can be?
Tell me: why can't I fly without wings through the skies?
Tell me: why, daddy dear, are there tears in your eyes?

Little one, little one, yes, the world's really round,
And the bluebird you search for will surely be found,
And the sky up above is so blue and clear
So that you'll see the bluebird if it should come near.
And the sun doesn't fall when it slips out of sight.
All it does is make way for the moon's pretty light,
And if children could fly, there'd be no need for birds,
And I cry, little one, 'cause I'm touched by your words.

Don't be sad, daddy dear; if it's true the world's round,
I will search round the world till the bluebird is found.
Little one, there is no need to wander too far,
For what you really seek is right here where you are.

Show me where, daddy dear, and here's what I'll do:
I will take the dear bluebird and give it to you.
Dear, the bluebird's the love in your heart, pure and true,
And I found it the day heaven blessed me with you.

Georgiansilver, nice try but I don't think so.
guest999 thanks for searching, I done that for ages myself.
This song was a request from my website [some of you may know it]
The woman that requested it says her father used to sing it
to her when she was a little girl. Her father came from Ireland
and she thinks it may be a rebel song as he sang a lot of them.
But I don't think this one is Irish or rebel.
Now and again I get requests for song and I generally
get most, the few I don't get I come here looking.
If the ladies and gents here don't know it then
it probibly doesn't exist ?

Martin, please give this thread a bit of time. I'll make sure it's refreshed a few times and we'll see. People here love a challenge.

I Know all the words you have are right but I don't remember the missing words. my father sang this song 70years ago he told me it was an old railway song about a signal man telling his daughter he had made a big mistake and was going to jail.
