17 Nov 12 - 09:39 PM (#3438014) Subject: Tech: Free Video Editing Software Advice From: Bev and Jerry We have a video that is in need of color correction and we're looking for some (hopefully) free software that will do the job. It's an HD file and we also have it in MP4 format. We're using Windows 7. We used Windows Live Movie Maker to trim the video and to add a title and fade in/out. However, it won't do color correction. We tried Avidemux and we can't get it to work. Also tried AVDC (might have that misspelled). It has color correction but it doesn't work. There's an online software called FileLab which has color correction and we can't get it to work either. What's wrong here? Bev and Jerry |

Do you mean they run but don't do the color correction you want, or that they won't run on your computer? If it's the latter, the OS you're using may be needed for someone to be very helpful. John |

AVDC loads the files and appears to do color correction but when we actually try to correct the color as shown in the tutorial, nothing happens. FileLab loads the files and we can apply the "standard" color correction but the result is not very good. There's a custom color correction but the window in which it's done is not properly displayed in Firefox. When we switched to IE, the software wouldn't open because we have a 64-bit browser. When we tried it with the 32-bit version, it opened and actually allowed some color correction but the rest was improperly displayed in the window so it wouldn't work. In any event, FileLab won't let us save the file unless we give it permission to get into our Facebook page or Gmail account and we won't do that. Bev and Jerry |

The newest version of KNOPPIX 7.0.3 has been released on cd with the December mags Linux Shell and Knoppix on the selves now. Kino comes with it. You may run them from disk or flash or HD. If it is just for the files you have now in your situation I would download the Photoshop Premiere Elements 11 0r earlier versions if you wish. I have done this several times. They allow you to try it out for -I think a month- free. You should be able to do what you want and then just uninstall the program when yoy free time runs out. Hope this helps. Cheers MikeL2 |
