BS: LOTRO Anyone?

Lord Of The Rings Online if you didn't know. Now free to play although you can get more by buying things. Only been playing myself about 4 weeks but if you play on the server (world) called Laurelin look out for a 19th level Dwarf called Strongintharm and maybe we can quest together or share a virtual pint or two in Thorin's Halls :-)

Cheers

Well, I knew it was lord of the rings something, does that make me some kind of geek?
Anybody else looking forward to The Hobbit? Or is that a different thread?

Level 28 now but probably need to spend some money to gain more quests. Shame really as I will probably just carry on the free version. Anyway. Also got a pony now called Daftinthead :-)

Can't believe no-one else on here is not into it - Has some good background music BTW - Particularly in Bree and the Shire.

I like the sharing a pint idea. Not fussy about the virtual part, or the "quests" for that matter. Hope the copyright holders are getting paid.

Sharing a digital pint hardly measures up to sharing a real one.

I'll buy you a pint, but I won't share mine.

Just reminded myself of this in another thread. Got as far as I could with Strongintharm so made a Human character called Agraman and an Elf called Ansayfti.

Anyone else into it yet?

I have only come across them via their ABC tune archive. Which is by far the worst ABC tune collection I've ever seen. Auto-converted from other formats (probably keyboard-input MIDI), totally human-unreadable and gibberish to any ABC processing software as well. Worthless waste of electrons.

Not sure what is a worthless waste of electrons, Jack, but if it is the music from a role playing game, I can only suggest that you steer away from them in the future. I enjoy it as background to the game but would never suggest it is a substitute for the music of real life :-)

There are some examples here and a whole reference in abc format here if anyone would care to try to link an MMRPG with real life ;-)

It's quite a wide range of music - all of it so badly mangled as to be unrecognizable. The problem isn't the quality of the music, it's the quality of the coding.

Ahhhh - OK. Good project for someone to recode it I suppose :-) Any volunteers?

I remember on the old BBC model B, when adventure games were typing in instructions such as "go in room" and the computer saying "it is locked" and you saying "break down door" and the computer saying "you can't do that."

Turning it off and going for a pint tensed to be the best way of ending.

Today's multimedia role play is far better of course but lacks the use of your imagination. Some friends tried getting me into Dungeons and Dragons on the same basis. The twenty sided dice approach did let your imagination run a bit and I could see the attraction.

But if all the graphics etc are there for you? Genuine question. Despite being IT led and indeed setting up and running a company building PCs (originally PLC automation for our other products but box building became lucrative for a while) I never really got into games. Conversely my 31 year old son has just bought a new Sony Playstation.

Mind you, I do enjoy slaying the odd orc here on Mudcat.....

I was told that everyone, one day, will read "Bored of the Rings".

Well - it hasn't happened in Rouge Towers yet, and no-one is rushing to. Or the films.
