They have agreed to be the campsite for the festival as they have been in the three previous years as it has worked well to mutual satisfaction in three previous years. & expensive! A lot of festivals just offer a field that is not a campsite at other times, often with minimal facilities. This is an excellent campsite with good facilities and a restaurant and shop on the site. As for expensive, you get what you pay for. If I look at the campsite list provided by Lewes T.I.C. (campsites within 15 miles of Lewes) then it is actually one of the cheapest. It is also within walking distance of all the events in the town. Aren't there any other places? The next nearest is at Housedean - four miles away on the busy Lewes-Brighton dual carriageway. It's facilities are nothing like as good as those at Spring Barn. As it says on the home page of the website at http://www.housedean.co.uk/ While we offer a traditional, basic camping experience, we want you to be comfortable throughout your stay and therefore provide modern facilities with rustic open air hot showers. |

A very well spoken woman told me that the nearest place you can put a caravan is in the grounds of a B&B at postcode BN8 5RU - about 5 miles out of Lewes. It's a shame because there are some smashing events listed. |

Normally, this campsite closes at the end of September and this is probably the reason for this confusion. I will share this information with Lewes T.I.C. Could I ask why people who seem to have camping difficulties have failed to contact any of the festival organisers for help with this matter, rather than posting on this thread? I have yet to have a single PM, phone call or email about difficulties with with camping or caravans. Those who have come to me for advise on this all appear to be satisfied. |

I said to them: - "I've been batting this backwards and forwards with the organiser of the festival (Vic Smith) as obviously in October a caravan is a lower risk than canvas so if people cannot practically caravan his attendance will be down. His first suggestion was: "We don't have a festival campsite, but we work with Spring Barn Farm Campsite which is in walking distance from the centre of the town. Here is their website and the phone number is 01273 488450" After that I contacted you and you said "no caravans" - so I went back to him and he said: - " but last year they made an exception for the festival period and allowed caravans and campers on their hard surface area." I asked you again and you said no again and I went back to him again, and he said "I've got a feeling that the management has OK'd this and not communicated it to their staff." Is he wrong?" THen they said to me: - "I think that the reason for the confusion is that we do not recognise it as the" Lewes Festival" but the "folk festival", so I thought you were just a regular camper on a regular day in which case we would not take caravans and as stated instruments OK if "courtesy to other campers" so I still did not recognise you as a folk festival goer. So our staff are well aware but it has actually been me the owner that you have been communicating with. We have taken camper vans but not caravans in the past, can I ask what size your caravan is please and when you would wish to stay" THen I said to them: - "Thank you I will duly consider (and spread the good word if you so permit). My van is a little one, cabin length about 4 metres, shipping length from tail to the front of the drawbar about 5 metres. I'd PROBABLY want to arrive Thurs and the van would likely be empty Sat afternoon ( a wedding elsewhere) and then I'd come back late Sat night (alas sober) and drag it away Sunday. I need to consult Girlfiend." There, so far, it rests. |
