The Folk Club at the End of the Universe

Any club that meets this Friday and has theme nights has one handed to it on a plate. I got this from Kelso FC's mailing list:

This is just a reminder that Kelso Folk session at the Cobbles has just one more chance to enjoy a gathering before the hundreds of people on a mountain in the Balkans get a bit disappointed that the world has not ended.

Come and play a few apo-calypsos, learn the words to 'The Age of Aquarius', remember Barry Maguire's 'Eve of Destruction' and don't forget that technically it's Mad Friday in Kelso, which has occasionally been worse than collision with a non-existent asteroid. Fortunately we have strength in numbers and the Cobbles Inn is designed to be easily defended.

The 8.00pm ACE Centre open mic will be quite safe, as it will finish about an hour before the end of 26,000 years of the Mayan Long Cycle and 5,000 years of current era. The Cobbles session is likely to start in the present aeon and end in the next (something the bar staff have been complaining about for ages), but will be under way by 10pm if not earlier.

Other nominations for suitable tunes or songs?

Happy New B'ak'tun, everybody.

Correction: Eve of Destruction was written by the great P.F. Sloan.

Come on. Ya gotta sing The Grey Cock. "when the rocks they melt in the heat of the sun."

And what was that awful maudlin song which Cilla Black used to sing about "the end of my world, end of my world, end of my world for me". No don't remind me. Just get the loudest rock band in the universe to play it.

If by Bread

If the world should stop revolving spinning slowly down to die,
I'd spend the end with you.
And when the world was through,
Then one by one the stars would all go out,
Then you and I would simply fly away

Bye Bye everyone - J
