The person who should have led the workshop had lost her voice so another member of the band did it. He told us that it was a song, and that Annette would have sung it for us, but couldn't. She did some good mime to indicate that 'tricot' meant the knitting together of 2 dances (Hanter Dro? and An Dro? not that I can do either) Does anyone have the words? it might be easier to remember the tune with them. |

Sheet music with full lyrics. It can also be found as "Derrière de chez mon père". |

I guess millers have the same reputation in France as in England then. |

Chorus Do come back (to it), my pretty lady As my mill is, as my mill is, Do come back (to it), my pretty lady As my mill is grinding. 2 There passed an old woman Who wanted to grind her grain "For you, my poor old woman, My mill doesn't work. 3 If you have a daughter Tell her to come tomorrow." When the young girl came The mill was working fine. 4 The young girl got asleep To the ticking of the mill, When she woke up, Her little bag was full 5 Of white flour, The whitest of the mill. "Ah! what will my father say When he sees my bag so full?" 6 "You'll tell him, my pretty: 'It's the miller Mathurin Who caresses the girls To the ticking of the mill'." |
