BS: New to Mudcat....sorta *laughs*

Subject: BS: New to Mudcat....sorta *laughs*
From: Semofolkie

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am familiar with mudcat, and for several years sat at the sidelines reading the posts and forum. I guess it has been about 5 years ago now a friend of mine past away. "Big Jim From Jackson" I posted about his death at that time.

Anyhow, It was big Jim that got me hooked on Mudcat. I finally have more free time now, and have been writing songs, and playing out publicly. I've loved music all my life. Began playing banjo at 12. Then moved on to mountain dulcimer, guitar, washboard, autoharp, and the Uke. I've been a folk enthusiast for about 10 years now, and love hearing new artist, learning old and new songs, and just sitting back and absorbing the knowledge of the more educated members of the folk community. I'm a big fan of anyone from Dave Carter to the Seekers, and John Williamson to the Classic Pete Seeger.

I look forward to make new acquaintances, and sharing and learning in the vast folk knowledge base that Mudcat provides.

Thanks.

The Semofolkie

Gidday from summery Australia

If you want to know anything about traditional Australian music & the folk revival, here's a place to look Bush Music Club, Australia's oldest folk club founded 1954

Check out our blog & photo website links on the home page.

Bush Traditions Inc is a similar organisation to BMC & has links to tunes

On Mudcat check out Bob Bolton's posts for lotsa' info on traditional Australian songs & music. Bob & I are both members of BMC & I run the blog & photo website.

Earlier this year around 30 US autoharpists came to Australia for the Illawarra Folk Festival.

Guest,999. Yes he was a great guy. I referred to him as the "Godfather" of folk do to his vast knowledge. That dulcimer was made by Jesse Williams Sr. He resides in on the outskirts of Cape Girardeau County, Mo. Near the Bollinger Mill. I have some youtube videos up. Jerry Swan is what you can find me under.

Yo, Semo...

Glad ya stuck yer head in the door to say, "Hey"... It's the ones who just lurk and lurk that are the scary ones and almost always are the kinda folks who get caught doing strange things with farm animals and then the reporter comes around and talks with the neighbors and they all, "He's kinda shy"...

Weren't all that shy with that stenkin' goat, Ralph...

Know what I mean???

BTW, there are some very strange people here if ya' get my drift... Especially down here in the outhouse...

So Semo.....you're back huh? Didn't get the message or are you just another jadrool with nothing to do like Rap and Bobertz? Try to take my advice on this Semo..........

Leave now before you get hooked and actually find yourself liking 999 and thinking Amos knows French. The closest thing he ever was around that was French was his car jack. It had a hydraulic leak and kept going down on him. Gnu had some French goats and they did the same but he can't speak French either............

Ah, Spaw, mon vieux -- je parle La Belle Langue une peu. Et vous? No. You parley only Ohioan, and not very good Ohioan at that, seein' as how yer down South, even lower than Columbus. And Columbus, home of OSU, is low -- I know, I've been there several times and each time it sank lower and lower.

How can a place be so low when it is the only city where a judge not only approved the word fuck to be displayed proudly on signs and bumper stickers but also ruled it to be within community standards?   My kind of place! What a great judge!

The signs in question said "Fuck Michgan" so you can understand how right and righteous his ruling was..........

Then again, how many cities have one resident who single handedly lowers the entire standards of the community below sea level...

Yeah, up there the stuff gets really deep and important......like arguing over the 4th word in the 3rd line of the 126th verse of "Barbara Allen." On a good day you will be totally orgasmic I'm sure. Stilly has been known to have been hospitalized after a rousing discussion of "Fields of Athenry."

Spaw, once again you're wrong. The discussion was over the F7minor and it was the 125th verse, not hte 126th.

Playing God's own instrument, the trumpet, I don't lower myself and participate in arguments about (shudder) stringed instruments.

'like arguing over the 4th word in the 3rd line of the 126th verse of "Barbara Allen."'

I opine you meant to say the 3rd word in the 4th line. It can be found as Child Ballad 84 and Roud 54. There are at least 90 versions of the song.

Spaw knows them all; that's why he screws up the number. Ever since we taught him to count he's been adding things. Thus the reference to verse 126 which, as we're aware, doesn't exist. As for Rap, he's a trumpet player so we cut him a bit of slack.

As for music talk, Semo, that usually takes a more scholarly tone Above the Line or Above the Salt (don't ask). Basically, they are music threads and they are reserved for music talk where people remain polite and friendly, even if they think the person they're speaking with has his head where the sun don't shine because it's dark as a dungeon, etc.

To give you an idea, Spaw will likely have something to say about this image. He will suggest a few ways to make a musical instrument out of the empty tin. He would never do that above the line. He's been touchy ever since the successful reducing operation he had done on his pecker. Before the surgery he was part of the Olympic pole vaulting team, their guiding spirit as it were. But that's another story.

So...if the upper area is considered to be "above the line." Is this part considered below the belt? *smiles*

Kinda like a 'wabe' in Wonderland...

"The grass plot around a sundial", called a 'wa-be' because it "goes a long way before it, and a long way behind it"

...and hi there, Semo... (we have interesting times above and below the line.)

Rap was brought up with farm animals - like Giles goatboy?

I didn't know that - but it does explain some odd past behaviour :)

You're right, but you don't just have to come out and say it like that. Yes, my brother's an old goat and...you've hurt my feelings, such as they are.

Maybe I put it the wrong way, sorry about that. There is nothing to be ashamed of, in being closely associated with goats.

Family pictures?

Which ones are yours?
