Today's folkies seem to be mostly either people who were high school or college age in the late 'fifties and early 'sixties, or who are high school or college age now. People in between mostly don't get it. (Although a great number of those in between are acoustic singer-songwriters, they don't really get into trad stuff much.) Or rather they generally weren't around in the folk clubs, unless we were very lucky, and generally pretty well appreciated if they came along. Though It may depend on when we were young - I'm talking early sixties. And like everything, we generalise from our own experience, and the world varies a lot. |

From: GUEST,SirCoughsalot I agree with the person who said that most people who seem to be doing folk music nowadays are people who were high school and college age around the time of the Folk Scare and people who are high school and college age now. I myself fall into the later category. I was playing some music the other day with an old man who was admiring my long-necked banjo, telling me how much it looked like the one he played in the 60s. I'm glad to see anybody singing and playing this kind of music. Good luck to them! |

You have to die from time to time to be revived, keeps you on your toes. Basically it's a matter of alternating generations. |

From: Mr Red we had an exceptional crowd to Stroud Ceilidhs last Saturday, and a cohort of Yoof (who knew what they were doing). Though I have to admit I danced more dances than most of them. I have long noticed that the youth of today, in say sessions, whilst they may be small in (a growing) number they rather put the old lags to shame. My theory is that the standard is generally high enough to make the wannabeees wary, and attract those with more than $imple a$piration$ to participate. And in some cases (see Infinite Cherries et al) run sessions. |

Most of them danced every dance, and coped with stripping the willow, pousettes, grand chains. Waltzing, ballroom hold etc were a bit of a mystery! |
