It sounds like "Kuiama" by The Electric Light Orchestra...but then again, that's 70's art rock and not a Civil War song. Sorry...

Go to the search in the upper right and type in "conscript". You will come up with two songs on the subject. "The Valiant Conscript" to the tune of Yankee Doodle comes from the Civil War era. "The Willing Conscript" was written by Tom Paxton in the 1963, a hundred years later. Some things just never seem to change.
