This is a great song. I have it close but there are a few chords that I seem to miss. Perhaps I am expecting a change and none are necessary. Any help?

Thanks

Don

Load up Pandora on the computer. I have it showing up on a list of songs entitled by me as Don Edwards. If you don't know, Pandora allows you to define a type of music on what is called radio stations and it then plays song similar in style to the name of the station. Don Edwards = cowboy and western songs.

Thanks 999

We cannot get Pandora in Canada. Used to be able to, but it seems licensing got in the way. I cannot find the song on YouTube, either. However, there are a few good ears in the US who'd be able to help. So let's keep this thread 'up there'.

Don, I have sent you an email after emailing a friend in the US who may be able to help you with this. He's a musician and a half, so country will likely be easy for him to handle. It will depend on whether he can access Pandora. Hang tough.

BTW, could you please post a stanza and a chorus/bridge of the lyrics, SVP?

Rosa May, Dave Stamey

Her name was Rosa May
She arrived one autumn day
to ply her trade in the streets of Bodie
Her checks were flaming (blazing) red
From the chilly winds she said
but lines around her mouth were even colder.

Based on a real woman who was a prostitute in Virginia City and Bodie, California. There are significant legends about her that can be Wiki'd. This song is much less glamorous and infinitely tragic.

There is one line in the song that captures me, I'll let you find it if you search the song on Pandora.

Dave Stamey, "Tonopah" I can't figure how these guys get below my radar for so long. Because of him I discovered Cliff Gorman and Juni Fisher. Well worth the listen.

I can't help with chords, but it appears that the lyrics have never been posted at Mudcat, so I figure we ought to have them. This is my transcription from Spotify:

ROSA MAY
As sung by Dave Stamey on "Tonopah" (2007)

Her name was Rosa May,
She arrived one autumn day
To ply her trade in in the town of Bodie,
And her cheeks were blazin' red,
From the chilly wind, she said,
But the lines around her mouth were even colder.

And down on Maiden Lane,
Like the others just the same,
She laid down for the miner's dollar,
And her hands were coarse and plain,
Like a song without refrain,
But there was always lace on her collar.

Well the miners gathered round
To throw their money down
And touch the goods that she was sellin',
And she smelled the smoke and sweat,
And the whiskey on their breath,
And always they found her willin',
And always they found her willin'.

She was a girl no longer young.
When each night's work was done,
She'd face the light of bitter mornin',
And in the stove she'd build a fire,
And though the flames danced higher,
She'd never felt their warmin'.

To the opium den she'd go,
On King Street through the snow,
Where she'd take the pipe that would soothe and blind her,
And she spent the endless days
In a yellow smoky haze
Till the night would come and men would find her.

Well the boom it came and went,
And all the money spent,
But still she stayed in the town of Bodie,
And the wind it howled and shrieked
Through the empty lonely streets,
And the whisper on the sage was like poetry.
The whisper of the sage was like poetry.

They found her a winter's dawn,
The smoke from her fire gone.
Her eyes were open to the endless myst'ry,
And they buried her without prayer
On the slope just over there,
Then they moved it on and were lost to hist'ry.

Well, the boom it come and went,
And all the dollars spent,
Still she stays in the town of Bodie.
And the wind it howls and shrieks
Through the empty lonely streets,
And the whisper of the sage is like poetry.
The whisper of the sage is like poetry.

Her name was Rosa May.
She arrived one autumn day
To ply her trade in the town of Bodie,
And her cheeks were blazing red
From the chilly wind, she said,
But the lines around her mouth were even colder,
And there was always lace on her collar,
And the whisper of the sage is like poetry.
